Well here he is, a real handful!!
When we got Rudy he was 8 weeks old, and with 24/7 care he was a wonder. Then at 4 months we adopted Boo, and she did do some damage, woobie guts, a few $20 bills, an ATM, and about $400 worth of VS lingerie! (She wasn't weaned from her dog mom. G) Then came Zack, who after being abused for two years, was timid and had to learn to play. Both of the later dogs pretty much learned as much from Rudy as from me. I think so anyway. ![]() But here I am with a 9 mo old, never been trained at all, *trying* to chew up pillows, chairs, and other BIG stuff. He just got past me a few minutes ago, while letting in Hannah, on the front porch and bolted, bounding happily down the street. I grabbed my shoes and the leash and went after him. In the minor blizzard going on here in Kansas, nice as the other one on Sat. has mostly melted. ![]() I've been the one to let them in all the time, from the back yard, (6 ft. chain link), by calling, "Any doggies wanna come in and see Mommy?!" and they all run in. Thank dog for that as it worked quite well, as panicky as I was, he trotted back toward our house, and got to one driveway away from us. I calmly talked to him, told him to 'sit' and he stayed there long enough for me to reach him and leash him. Came back with me in a very gentle mode. (Not usual without a prong, so far. He pulled me almost off my feet the first day on a regular leash. But he did well with it this morning. Who knows.) I have a feeling I'll be asking for help here more than offering it. I just have to keep remembering what I had with My Rudy and pray that I have the patience and health to be able to train him as well. So glad to be back reading all the neat things about all the dogs. Thanks for the remarks to my other posts, too. "~shady angel~" wrote in message Nice, What breed are all these dogs? Well Rudy and the new one, Sam, are Golden Retrievers. Boo/Ceilidh is a field bred black lab gal. And Zack, the one terribly abused for two years, (been with us for 7 years now), is a black mix. Don't know what he is. But he sure is a protective dog for me. Everytime Sam thinks about jumping on my couch, (as opposed to the dog's futon g), Zack comes running and stands back warning Sam. Sam and Boo are sweethearts by now, and Zack and Sam play together outside. Just today they have, I *think*, confirmed and settled the 'pecking order'. Don't ask me what it is, but Sam is submitting to both black doggies now. ![]() Thanks for the compliment...tho these were taken by my hub and not as clear as the other ones. On to teaching him now. lol Mare and Da Smiff Den |
