My little mini daschund is 16 years old, I got her in 1992. She is
only one year younger than my son. She is mostly blind from cataracts and nearly deaf and now having alot of trouble breathing for some reason. I have made the decision to have her put down tomorrow and it's really bothering me. She has been a faithful companion to me during all the years.....she sits by me always, follows me everywhere, even watches me while I mow the lawn. She is so weak I see no reason to do anything but let her go in peace. It sure is hard when you love them so much. II |

We too had a little mini dachshund grandpuppy. She was born in 1991 and our daughter had to have her put to sleep this past fall. They are very sweet. I can picture your pup by your description of her. Ours too was deaf the last year or so. It's a very hard descision to make, but her quality of life isn't what it was nor should be. You are doing the most loving thing you can for her. I will keep her and you in my thoughts tomorrow, and light a candle Monday evening in memory of your baby, and all the babies who have gone on ahead. Take care, be strong, and yes, it is very hard when you love them so much. best, td |

Making the decision to let your treasured friend go peacefully is very difficult, but it is a true gift to her. Wishing you comfort from the memories of your good times together. II ================ I am sorry for you and your dog, and I know how you feel right now. It is a very difficult decision to make. I have had to have it done twice; both times neither dog exhibited the least bit of suffering; I always make sure I am with the dog when it happens patting and comforting the dog. I wanted to make sure the dogs did not suffer at all. Both times the dogs just closed their eyes and lay down as though they just fell asleep; no struggling or crying or whimpering or moving. It made me feel good to know that they went so peacefully, without pain and with me beside them patting them. Everyone feels differently about it, as to whether they want to be there or not, but I prefer to be by their side at those final moments in their lives. I also want to make sure nothing goes wrong. One of my dogs was a 16 year old black Miniature Poodle named Pixie, blind with cataracts for three years and not eating anymore and extremely thin at that point. The other was my Chow Chow , Sebastian, who at age 13 could hardly walk anymore and stopped eating also. He had been dragging one paw around for a couple of months, and it bled all the time. He would fall down and had to be lifted up. He had to be carried up and down the stairs and started messing and peeing in the house, which bothered him since he was a very clean and fastidious dog. He finally stopped eating and then I knew it was time. I was told that 13 years for a Chow Chow was very good, which made me feel a little better. He was very healthy all his life until the very end when his health declined rapidly. |

To all that left kinds words, thank you.
I tried to give her food this morning and she won't take it but did take a few drinks of water. She has been the best of friends. ![]() II |
