Default Freecycle Madness

Someone is trying to get rid of a Chorkie, of all things. WTF? The
dog isn't even 2yo yet, but the reason for rehoming him? Too many
animals. Why on earth did they get a dog in the first place, if
they had too many animals to begin with? Or did they get more
animals after the dog, and decided that the dog wasn't as cute and
fun as the new animals?

But, anyway, a Chorkie? My real question is, how do people say that
with a straight face?

I think there are two things going on here. One is that
people somehow think giving something a name confers
legitimacy that it might otherwise lack. The other thing is
that tastes differ (or variously, "People ain't got no
taste") and so there are definitely people who think that
things like "Chorkie" or "Yorkie-Poo" or whatever are
appealing. Back when the network equipment behemoth I work
for was growing like crazy and employees were making
millions of dollars each quarter off stock options, one
manager went out and bought a car for cash. A Cadillac.
His colleagues gave him so much crap about it that within 24
hours he returned it and got a deeeee-luxe European car
instead. He thought the Cadillac was classy but in the
company culture it was a downscale car. You (and I) may
think that "Chorkie" is dopey but somebody obviously thinks
it increases the value (for whatever value of "value") of
their dog.

Chow-Yorkie? Chihuahua-Yorkie?

Seriously. It's kind of disconcerting to see people advertise all sorts of
mutts with cutesy names, and to see people actually buying into it.
Petfinder had an ad for a 'Toy Miniature Pinscher', 'spade and housebroken'
with an adoption fee of $1,000. People are delusional.

That part, I understand.

That, I understand, too. I just am having trouble applying it to
this particular word, since it offends every one of my brain cells.
And it's such an ugly word. To me, it conjures up collapsing
tracheas, which is not so much a good thing, considering. Chorke!
Chorke! Chorke!

Right. It's the Cadillac of dog names.

At least it doesn't mean penis. I think.

Option B. Though A might be entertaining.

Seriously. It's kind of disconcerting to see people advertise all sorts of

And sometimes it's people who should know better, too, which is
disconcerting.

If you build it, apparently, not only will they come, but they'll
fork over fat stacks of cash, too.

Well, yes, there is that. Too bad TD didn't name one of the other
puppies Vagina.

Bwah! Yeah, there IS that.

What DOES it mean, though? "Yorkie" is obvious, but what's the
m/ch.*/?

Sorry! I guess that wasn't as obvious as I'd assumed. The momma
was a Yorkie and the baby daddy was a Chihuahua.

Of course, I get odd looks when I say "Flat-Coated Retriever"! I expect
that out of the Petsmart clerk and JQP. I don't expect that from a
Golden owner involved in a dog sport. Did they not read their breed's
history?
