Default Accelerated no-crate sleeping

Well, forget 2/1! Last night, DH was out of town on business, and the
dogs were all on the bed w/me before lights out. They are allowed to
stay there when only one of us is in bed anyway, so I watched tv a bit
later than usual. Marcie hopped off at one point, and usually, that is
when she goes into her crate, I zip her in and and say goodnight. Only
she didn't want to go into the crate, and I placed her in and zipped it.

Within a minute, she was whining - not common for her, so I figured I
better take her outside. She raced out and needed to poop pretty
desperately, even though she had gone right before bed. Hmmmmm.

So, back to bed, back to the crate. And then she started whining again.
I told her to shush and go back to sleep. Rut-roh, I hear barfing. Get
her out and she has had diarrhea and barfed as well. I know what it's
from at least - eating the tree, every stick she can find, and firewood
scraps. A real downside to a mesh crate is that cleaning is not quick
and simple.

Too tired to deal with the crate and too cold to get a different one out
of the garage, I decided the hell with it and let her sleep free. W/out
DH home, that meant on the bed. She snuggled right in with her head on
me and we all had a good night's sleep until the big dogs stirred at
6:41 and she woke up and licked my face. I got another 10 minutes before
she whined to go out, and all seems well.

So tonight we try the "sleep on your dog bed" phase. We'll see how that
goes, or if we wind up allowing dogs to sleep in the bed........

Um, Janet, she wasn't sick.
You've been outsmarted by a little black dog.
Amazing, the lengths they'll go to.
(I hope she's feeling better today)

I'm dreading going out to the garage to deal with the crate. This
morning, once I was actually awake, it dawned on me what her problem
was. Not wood, although she is a little termite, but I curb that pretty
well. It is GOLDEN RETRIEVER FUR. She has been relentless lately - his
ear tufts, tail feathers, leg feathers, you name it. In her first 2
weeks here, she had a similar problem from the same thing. I guess we
go back to spraying poor Rudy with Bitter Lime!

Carey, my weirdo cat, had surgery over 14 years ago, for the same thing.
She was a small kitten and ingested too much Golden fur and got blocked.
Who knew that Goldens were so tasty?

Heh. I don't think it was Marcie who got trained last night...
I hope the little stinker is feeling better today.

She's fine. Normal poop, bouncy and happy.

It's DH I worry about. He's the reason that we became people who allow
the dogs on the sofas. I think I need to put my foot down about the
bed. I was hoping for a weekend night to start this, but oh well!

I think it was very brave of you to let her sleep with you after she
barfed and had the runs!

I think I was convinced that she was pretty well cleaned out (and
clean!). I didn't have a lot of options. I could have put her in her
downstairs crate, but that didn't seem very nice. The other crates in
the garage are hard to get to and COLD at 3 am, so it seemed like a
worthwhile gamble.

Send the crate through a car wash!

And that's pretty weird about the Golden fur. I don't think I've ever
encountered that situation. In fact, I'm more likely to ingest animal hair
than the animals are I think. There is always cat hair on the rim of my
coffee cup, it's disgusting.
