We got more ice and freezing rain yesterday. Last night, when I let
Harriet out on her tie-out for last call, she did a Scooby Doo. She
was literally running in place, because she couldn't get any
traction. Fortunately, no Bad Guys in Ridiculous Costumes were
after her. Zoinks!

I wish I'd gotten video of it.

Pan understands and sympathizes (see reply to Kevin). Ice is evil. I
walked the dogs in the woods behind us, and any place with clearing or had
rocks/branches on it was awful. There I was, walking like I'm doing it for
the first time ever, and the pointy eared one wanted to run on-leash.

Oh, and we couldn't use our tie-out for Khan because it was frozen solid to
the ground.

That sounds familiar. Elliott did the same thing to me on numerous
occasions. His ice traction was way better than mine.

Yeah, I think that'd preclude tie-outing.

Harriet's is anchored indoors, so when she goes out, the patio door
is cracked open the width of the cable. It can be a little chilly
in the winter, but this time of year, she doesn't spend much time
out there on her own.

When I left the dogs out at 4:30 it wasn't doing anything. Between then and
9 am we got freezing rain. I opened the door to let the dogs out the first
two made it down the ramp ok but poor buddy ended up sliding down on his
butt and landing in the snow. He just got up and looked at me like what the
heck just happened here..................LOL I salted the ramp then scraped
it off now it's safe again.

We just got power back. It went out with a bang (actually 3 bangs, as
it tried to come back on a few times in rapid fire) at about 4 a.m.
Thank goodness for a woodstove and an iphone, along with a battery
operated tv, and a lot of candles.

Everything is glazed with ice. The driveway is not walkable. The car
that I don't want to have to drive in this, has icicles hanging off of
it. All in all, a good day to stay in, but I have to go out for
something. Maybe it will be better by around 3.

I'm a big believer in always having at least one
conventional land-line phone. They're powered out of the
central office and basically never go down, and frankly
mobile phone service in the US is nowhere near there yet
(plus here in the boondocks the coverage is so bad that to
use mine I go upstairs into the guest bedroom and stand on
the bed, but that's another matter).

Mind you they're nowhere near as entertaining as an iPhone.
I finally had a chance to fondle one last week and it sure
is gorgeous.
