There are 2 different types that frequent this group: the high falutin
city folk that believe dogs should be treated like children, and the
answer for any problem is "enroll them in class and spend $300 to
teach them not to do it, and put them in time-out, but be sure their
paw socks are on before stepping outside if under 50 degrees, etc."
Or the old school style like me: treat a dog like a dog. Be the pack
leader, a snout slap here and there works wonders, never be greedy
with the REAL people food left-overs, but don't let them demand it.
Barking is in our dog's genes. For thousands of years we bred dogs to
be our guards, and now we want to change them to be our buddies only,
in 100 years timespan. Isn't gonna happen, but at least we have
electricity

Damn, is there a troll convention in town?
I sure wish they all wore silly-looking hats, like the Shriners.
Sometimes it's hard to pick up the smell of troll **** until you've
stepped in it.
ah yes, that new definition of troll - newsgroup frequenter who's
views don't match that of the old timers
Do you also let your dog ride in the back of pickup trucks? Are you
acquainted with Peter? Are you Peter?
Inquiring minds want to know.

hehe, I think I'd like this peter guy. Yes, growing up in NM our dogs
did ride in the back of the truck, and they loved it! So did the kids
though.
I grew up in NM, too, and as a child I SAW a dog get thrown from
the back of a pickup truck when the truck swerved to avoid
something in the road. It wasn't pretty.
The fact that the state is full of idiots who can't think through
the likely consequences of putting unrestrained dogs or children
in the back of a pickup - even if they do "love it!" - doesn't
mean that it was ever a smart thing to do.

I, too, know someone who had a dog killed by bouncing out of the back of a truck. He bounced out going over a shallow bump and got hit and killed by a vehicle in the other lane. Poor thing. They don't know any better, we're supposed to.
