I bet there are just as many men out there who could say just the opposite. I know more than a few of them myself. I can't imagine doing everything around here myself. I guess I got real lucky, cause my husband is also a great cook! td |

But only because there is no iron in my house. I have an iron, I think. It's around here somewhere. How about an ironing board? I have both, but the iron has never been out of the box it came in and the ironing board is holding up the wall behind a door. At one point I thought I would save money by ironing my own shirts, but (a) I live two doors from a cleaner and (b) work is business casual anyway. Where did you learn what it means? From my mother. As in: "A lady doesn't interrupt", "A lady waits her turn", "A lady doesn't yell in the house"... etc... She used it to teach us manners and how to be polite. A lady was something to strive for, someone nice to be around, and able to handle herself in social situations. I've never in my life considered it any other way. Nor used it as anything else, despite Shelley's assertion that she knew in advance that I would use it to insult her. I've never used the word "lady" to insult, and am flabbergasted that it can be used as one at all. You must travel in much rougher circles than I do. I suppose I can look forward to you insulting my mother now. -- Phyrie Kiba the Cav's Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/phyrie/...758930/detail/ |

Would she have taught a brother to be a lady? I've never used the word "lady" to insult, and am flabbergasted that it can be used as one at all. Growing up, I was taught that it had specific meanings around aristocracy and social class. And as I got older I saw how it was used to denigrate women who were violating social norms. You must travel in much rougher circles than I do. Maybe. My friends work, too. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

I wonder what it is about you they find repellent? -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Oh, for ****'s sake, Melinda, lighten up... It was kind of amusing, and dog apropos. I can't believe I stirred up such a hornet's nest. Here's my friend in India who married a dog who was a real bitch: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21768663/ Such a sad world we live in, where a goofy comment can't just be accepted for its humor. But those who have taken such offense are probably very insecure and bitter, and feel disenfranchised or afraid of the great male dominance cabal, and have become ultra-sensitive to the point of allowing themselves to be offended and hurt by playful words. And they become misanthropes. And if one were to call them bitches would be a slur against sweet female dogs. Paul and Muttley |

Hang up cotton pants directly out of the drier: no wrinkles. Slightly damp is even better. Got wrinkles? Press them between mattress and box springs. On the road? Hang them in the motel bathroom, turn on the shower, and steam those wrinkles out. work is business casual anyway. My business casual is about as casual as one can get without being arrested. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

rec.pets.dogs.behavior: DH can have any iron he wants. He's the one who uses it! My sister's husband is ex-military. He does all of the household ironing, is good at it, and actually enjoys it. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |
