When something has a lid, that pretty much implies that it is meant to

close the lid around here.

One thing I've never understood is why it's considered such
an imposition to close the lid.

Especially in a household that includes dogs. And even more
especially in a household that includes *bearded* dogs.

I'm pretty far from germophobic, but there are limits.

That one didn't even occur to me. Ew.

It took awhile to teach Jack not to counter-cruise. Now
there's a disgusting thought.

What's this iRon thing? A new Apple device?

There's a $cientology joke to be made here, but I can't quite
put it together.

It's safer to target Apple.

In what kind of location do you have your Lavender? What's the soil
like? Do you cut it back at the end of the season?
___________________________
Montana,
Yes I live in drought land and because the soil is so poor (sandy and
clay like) The best luck I have had with Lavender was in a plant box on
the back porch. I buy "black gold" (potting soil or dirt). I usually
mix it in with a little of my sand if it is dirt. It got full sun back
there, a lot of my yard is shaded because of the giant trees. That
planter is gone, because I now have a deck. I know one variety of
Lavender does better than others, I think it is the French variety as
opposed to English. I did not know to cut it back at the end of the
season. Shoot, I would be so happy to have some at the end of the
season, I couldn't bear to cut it back. I have cut it and woven it to
wear in my hair. I have also dried it, if only I could grow it. I
think I read that I may be overwatering it? Please share what you know.
Thanks...

I checked with my daughter and she wants a Golden Retriever...

Kathy,
I don't know where you and your daughter live in Mi. but you may want
to consider Humane Society of Huron Valley. They are in Plymouth Mi.
which is a suburb of Ann Arbor.

Very doable, that is about 2 hours away.

They are very progressive and have lots
to offer in addition to dogs that need a home. They also have pure bred
dogs that need adoption. http://hshv.org

Thanks I'll give her the link

Kathy

Default OT- sewing machines- Online Matrimony

Mark Shaw wrote:

I've got both. And a sewing machine. I even use them sometimes.

Per the sewing machine: two years or so ago I found myself in
need of mending a shirt that was very valuable to me for
sentimental reasons, so I went out and bought one. From Target.
I was, and am, amazed at (1) how cheap it was, and (2) what an
absolutely amazing piece of engineering it is. I think it cost
me about forty bucks, and I'll NEVER have occasion to use all of
its functions.

What sort of machine?
What sort of functions?

Most machines have a straight stitch, different sizes of straight stitch
(vary stitch length), zigzag, different sizes of zigzag (vary stitch
width), and a variety of combinations of those two. There are also
machines with computer capacity to control the straight stitch and the
zigzag. I'm wondering about the machines that combine computer capacity
with Internet. That is, machines that have computers controlling the
straight and the zigzag and that can download the patterns from the
Internet. To the best of my knowledge, those are still high endly
expensive.

We have an English Lavender variety growing on either side of a
sandstone path that goes to the front door.

Montana,
Thanks for all the great Lavender growing tips. The placement of your
Lavender sounds lovely. I am going to try cutting it back, planting it
in the ground, and of course in lots of different places. Maybe I will
get something going this year.

neglect? Honestly, dumb luck I am not a gardner. DH fed it for a bit,
but I don't know how w/what. it finally just decided to "take".

Janet,
Thanks, there is a lot to be said for that (neglect). The plants that
I like the most I tend to hover over, sometimes things I just ignore
spring up after a season or two. I am going to try to ignore my
Lavender. I have ignored my ferns and they have taken over.
