... (Melinda Shore) wrote in news:fte1ek$7ak$1 @panix3.panix.com: What's "this upset?" It's something that uppity wimmins get when righteous menfolk make misogynist jokes. Or something. There seems to be a certain mindset that thinks someone can't object to something unless it "upsets" them. Turning this to a literary bent, I have a book titled _The "Natural Inferiority" of Women_ (compiled by Tama Starr) The title is based on a Marquis De Sade quote "The natural inferiority of women is universally evident". Chapter after chapter of quotes by men and old proverbs (that one assumes were also written by men). For instance, in the section on occupations: Aristotle "It is absurd to argue from an analogy with wild animals and say that men and women ought to engage in the same occupations, for animals do not do housework." Oliver Reed (British actor 1978) "When a woman says she wants to go out and get a job to express herself it usually means she's hopelessly behind in the ironing." Judy |

Oh yeah, and I object to your incessant translating of my posts too. Doesn't *upset* me though. Boggles my mind, but no, not upset. td |

"Melinda Shore" wrote in message ... When I was in high school right after the schools were integrated, during some down time in gym class some black girls were standing at the end of the track, singing and dancing. And a white classmate leaned over to me and said "They want to be called 'Afro-American' but some of them are just 'n*'." So don't even *think* about pulling that "it's not all women, it's that woman" ****. I'm not sure what that story has to do with anything. Using your analogy, if Paul's friend calling his wife a bitch makes Paul a misogynist, then your friend using the "n" word makes you a racist. And I don't think that's what you had in mind. They weren't. "Dog" in this context = ugly woman. That psychic ability to interpret the meaning of everything could score you a job with Bush. |

"Shelly" wrote in message ... So no one else is allowed to read it that way? Not at all. I didn't say anything even remotely like that. But I'm being called to task for finding amusement in the comment. Am I not allowed to read it as I choose, as well? Or is there no goose/gander in this group? The rules only apply to you select few? Great googly-moogly, do you folks always think the very worst of everyone? Phyrie -- Kiba the Cav's Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/phyrie/...758930/detail/ |

$_v3.3804@edtnps90: But I'm being called to task for finding amusement in the comment. Duh. And if someone made a racist slur, and you found it amusing, I'd hope that you'd be "called to task" for that, too. Look, you've got a right to be any sort of misogynist or misogynist enabler that you want, but you are not, and will never be, exempt from criticism for airing it in public. That you seem to think you are is, to quote Tiny, mind boggling. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

: humorless harpies. You can join Phyrie and Paul on the Group M bench. Someday, maybe I'll cease to be amazed at how much some women hate other women. I mean, I understand *why*--it gets you brownie points with men like Jack and Paul, and therefore gives you the illusion that they actually value you as a person--but the degree to which you are willing to attack other women in order to elevate yourselves is, well, mind boggling. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |
