Yesterday, when I got home from work there was a small white female
dog running around in my back yard while my neighbor across the street
was trying to catch her. She was terrified of everything, but she has
warmed right up to my wife and me now that we have her in the warmth
and safety of our house. I know everyone says it, but I really think
she was abused, and I think the bruises are good evidence. It's very
sad, and she definitely freaks out when someone walks up to her. She
doesn't seem to like it when someone towers over her because she will
flatten herself on the ground and freeze. I had her taken to the
rescue group I have worked with in the past and registered her with
them and they have started the standard medical treatment. Hopefully
I can get her socialized and adjusted to life in a good home so we can
work on finding her a permanent home.

And of course, here are some pictures:

She's awfully cute.

Is it possible that she was hit by a car or that the bruises came
from another cause? Not that she couldn't have been beaten. It
does happen, of course.

I considered it, and I'm not dead set on the her being beaten, but she
basically shuts down if you walk up to her and stand over her as well
as other things. Either way, she doesn't appear to have been properly
socialized. What matters is going forward from here, and my intent is
to give her the best socializing and experiences I can.

Sounds to me like she's already found one.

I haven't ruled it out, but with my current situation it would be very
difficult being that we barely have enough room for ourselves and our
two cats and one dog. My wife wants to keep her, I'm just not certain
it will be plausible for long term. Either way, I'll make sure she
gets a good home in the end.

Oh, I think she is adorable. She looks like a Pit Bull to me. I think dogs
look terrified anytime they are lost. That was nice of you to take her to a
rescue.

Its certainly possible. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that she's just
a somewhat shy girl in a brand new situation. There are any number of ways a
dog can be bruised too (especially if she's been on her own for a couple of
days).
