My dog is about 11 years old. He can no longer navigate stairs. His hind
legs just "give out" sometimes. We've fed him "joint" stuff but it's been like candy. The only thing left is to stop the pain for him. Can dogs take aspirin, or something else like aspirin? We can't afford hip surgery, or expensive treatments. Tks. -- ................ Vista OS- Vastly Inferior Software Try Another OS |

Xrays are relatively inexpensive and may give you a pretty good idea as to the next step. Good luck. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

But can dogs tolerate aspirin, or ibuprofen, tyl., etc.?? That is my real question. |

Surely, it would be better to ask your vet? And for what it's worth, I would not give ibuprofen or acetaminophen to my dog, as it is my understanding that those drugs can be dangerous. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

But can dogs tolerate aspirin, or ibuprofen, tyl., etc.?? That is my real question. There are anti-inflammatories made especially for dogs that are safer than aspirin. You need to make an appointment with your vet so that your dog can be examined and the vet can make recommendations. Mustang Sally |

Right now you don't have a diagnosis on which to base treatment. A relatively inexpensive consultation with your vet (including, probably, xrays) will go a long way in figuring out the best and most affordable treatment for your dog. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

I did ask last time at the vet when my dog's ear was infected. She just said "it's something German S. get." I think we can only treat this symptomatically. |
