Hi People, I once posted a message describing how thunder reduced dog
Rusty to sheer terror. Since then, he must have thought it over. His
behavior has changed.
I have to mention that only during thunder is Rusty allowed to hop
onto my bed. I do this to have some Specials up my sleeve; to give
Rusty some Christmases all now and then, something to celebrate. And
on top of the bed, that’s Rusty’s Paradise.
Now, while thunder is still far beyond my ancient ears, Rusty will
come in with a broad grin, his tail going like a helicopter. He’ll hop
on the bed, roll around and say ‘tickle my tummy - thunder is
coming!’ And acts in exuberant joy - as I would when in Paradise.
It’s just when the thunder is directly overhead and makes the house
shake that he snuggles up again. Joy evaporates, here come the
jitters.
It appears, that in the combination of the wanted and the feared, the
first stole much of the thunder’s thunder.
So Rusty learned a sad truth: there is a cost to everything. Even
paradise isn’t entirely free.
