Default Puppy Mills follow up on Oprah

Oprah did follow ups on previous shows today. One of the follow ups was
about the show on puppy mills and spaying and neutering your animals.
She claimed the show generated more interest than any other show in the
past 2 years.

Victoria Rappaport of NBC was a guest and she is the owner of 5 dogs and
6 horses. She says they are her family. She has no children. One of
her dogs lost a leg as a result of cancer. She had no idea that such
things went on. (puppy mills)

Victoria introduced Oprah to Angel's Gate, it is a hospice for dying
dogs and severely injured dogs. Once again I had mixed feelings about
the subject. Upon viewing the dogs in their wheel chair like carts and
hearing their stories of course I mellowed. The owner's heart dog was a
dog that was found unconscious behind a couch, someone had thrown it
there and it was paralyzed as a result. Many of the dogs were born
deformed as a result of puppy mills. There was a dog they called a mini
Boxer. It was brindle and it's poor little feet were curled up at
birth, but the dog got around quite well. Oprah announced she would
make a donation. It is www.angelsgate.org/ if you would like to take a
look. I believe it is in NY.

Oprah profiled a pup named Brianna from the original show. (apparently
Oprah considered adopting it?) She said that a family with 3 boys came
forward and adopted it and it has a happy home. Oprah said she has
decided it is "just too soon" to get another dog but when she does it is
going to be from a shelter.

I was quite surprised when Oprah said the show garnered more interest
than any show in the last 2 years. I am taking that as a good thing,
though I continue to be amazed that so many people are/were uninformed.
