We are thinking about teaching our dog the trick we see on T.V. you
throw something off a running dock and the dog jumps into the water for the item. Then they are judge on far the jump was. Our dog is german shepherd , collie and he loves to swim and he runs very fast. We have the pond but dont know how to start this. We dont even know the name of the item they fetch. Guess I can go to the pet store for that one. But is anyone into this that can give us some pointers? Our dog, Tankers, would do very well with that. Thanks, dogheaven |

As long as you can throw it and it floats, it will work. As for starting, I'm not much help - my lab didn't need taught. She jumped the first time after something we hadn't even thrown. If you have plans to compete, there can be only 1 handler with the dog on the dock, so work on making sure they stay until you release them. That was our biggest mistake. You might get more hints in the behavior group rather than the health group. http://www.dockdogs.com/ Sue and Atty |
