To the extent that he relies on citations it's to opinion pieces in right-wing political propaganda. He asserts things as true that aren't, and to my knowledge he's never actually made an argument that presents facts and then uses them as the basis for a reasoned discussion. At a minimum a good argument is based on the arguer having his facts straight, and "Jack" doesn't even bother with that. You either. For example: As for those who emigrate here, live in our country, I too expect them to live by *our* laws, the same as if I lived in their country. Who's saying that immigrants to the US shouldn't obey US law? I mean seriously, tiny - do you have any idea what you're talking about? I don't know if you caught Hardball last night but he had a guest on who made a "Jack"-oid argument - that Barack Obama was like Neville Chamberlain. So Matthews asked him what Chamberlain did that was wrong, and the guest said "He was an appeaser." And for some minutes they went back and forth, with Chris Matthews asking "But what did Chamberlain *DO*?" and the guest saying "He was an appeaser." This guy didn't have a clue what Chamberlain did that was the problem but just repeatedly called him a name from the standard right-wing talking points, and boy, that's the kind of crap that's got "Jack" written all over it. So again, who's saying that people who move to the US shouldn't obey US laws? Also, you owe me $5. -------- In article , tiny dancer wrote: I'm through with you two. Which is why Melinda will one day be inducted into the Chutzpah Hall of Fame, which is located somewhere (I hear) in the state of New York, of course. Yes, it's takes world-class chutzpah for someone whose basic modus operandi in life is name-calling, to whine about someone else's, eh? Not true! Congratulations, Jack! ;-] Why thank you, TD. I shouldn't get all the credit though, because it's not really a learned behavior. To be a world-class bullshit detector, one must have been born with the right genes. I was detecting bullshit from the very moment my little feets first hit the ground. So all the thanks really should go to my beloved parents, may they rest in peace. But I went forth and multiplied, as instructed, so the world will remain safe from bullshitters like Melinda and her ilk for years and years to come. sigh -- Handsome "Jack" Morrison "Two substantive political issues are the federal budget deficit and the war in Iraq. Now, if you're electing Democrats to control government spending, then you're marrying Angelina Jolie for her brains. This leaves the Democrats with one real issue: Iraq. And so far the best that any Democratic presidential candidate has been able to manage with Iraq is to make what I think of as the high school sex promise: I will pull out in time, honest dear." P.J. And most of your "arguments" are what most people call bullshit. You just make **** up as you go along, paying almost no attention at all to what's *actually* being said. Exactly like you're doing right now, in this thread, because you haven't taken the time to do your due diligence. You're intellectually L-A-Z-Y. You are like the proverbial blind person who has hold of an elephant's tail and proudly proclaims "Aha. This must be a snake I'm holding!" And since you aren't blind (at least to the best of my knowledge you're not), you must therefore be stupid. Really, really stupid. Like only a liberal can be stupid. Rock stupid. Bag-of-hammers stupid. S-T-U-P-I-D. Melinda seems like a very narrow-minded and unhappy person who reads only enough to find something to criticize, and then concentrates all of her limited mental capacity on that, while ignoring the larger issue. She seems to do so in an attempt to belittle others for her own self-aggrandizement, which may be a trait of those who allow emotions to trump logic and common sense. I may not agree with all of your viewpoints, and some of your sources may be questionable, but at least you provide an intelligent and reasonable argument that can be debated. Melinda reminds me of a friend who often acts irrationally and justifies her actions on what she wishes were true, in contradiction to what can be clearly demonstrated to be otherwise, and then assumes a childish attitude trying to avoid responsibility for stupid things she continues to do even when warned beforehand. I especially dislike closed-mindedness, which seems to be especially rampant in extremist followers of Islam, but also was and still is evident in some supposedly Christian cults. I have not read all of the following article, but it seems to have some good information: http://research.yale.edu/culturalcog...tion_draft.pdf It is impossible to argue with someone who unquestionably believes something that cannot be absolutely proven or disproven, but there is a big problem when such people attempt to force others to accept their beliefs, or make unreasonable concessions in their way of life to accommodate their narrow and arbitrary dogma. And it seems that, in a misguided attempt to be "politically correct", and "socially sensitive", we have allowed our society and education to deteriorate to the point where a dangerously large percentage of citizens are ignorant of simple scientific facts, clueless about geography and history, and believers in myths and superstitions.
