I spent some of the money from my last cat sitting job on dog, cat,
and fish stuff. Harriet got a new collar. That makes the fourth in the last year, which is some sort of record. Before that, she wore the same flat leather buckle collar for about 7 years. Anyway, I got this one at Target. The color was what first caught my eye. In among all the disgusting pastel pinks and neon lime greens, there was a single section of navy blue collars. Huzzah! I like the color, and it goes well with red hair. And, it's braided. I've had trouble finding a flat collar of the right length for Harriet, even when I can take her with to fit her. Most of them are either too small or so large that a huge tail hangs off the end. Yuck. This collar is a nice length, and because it's braided, I don't have to punch extra holes to get a good fit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cat-sidh/2514424827/ (Please forgive the weird angle. She was lying with her butt up on my lap and her head down on the couch. Weirdo.) -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

With multiple dogs, I won't use collars with an actual buckle (and truth be told right now, Rudy and Marcie do not wear collars at all unless they leave the house, and often not even then). Sizing has always been easy as a result because I only use adjustable "quick clip" collars. I have used much smaller braid puppy collars in the distant past though, and I agree that the right fit is a whole lot easier than with predetermined holes. I have a huge collar collection for 3 dogs and Lucy has been the only fashionable one as of late. If the little one could just keep her teeth off of Rudy's collar........ Speaking of which, Marcie with her bum tail..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/96658169@N00/2502367894/ -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

: Very nice. With multiple dogs, I won't use collars with an actual buckle I think that's a good idea, especially since you know for sure that one of your dogs likes to chew on collars! Sizing has always been easy as a result because I only use adjustable "quick clip" collars. Harriet's purple collar is a quick release. My only problem with it is that it's nylon. She loves to do the backstroke out on the patio, and the cement tears up nylon collars something awful. Of course, the braided one is nylon, too, so it's likely to be ratty looking before long. I guess I should just stop thinking about collars as things that last for years and years, and start thinking of them as semi-disposable. I have a huge collar collection for 3 dogs and Lucy has been the only fashionable one as of late. That sounds reasonable to me. As the elder statesdog, she ought to be the best dressed. Harriet also has a couple of martingales (one nylon with chain and one all nylon), as well as a whopping *two* leashes. Three, technically, but I almost never use Elliott's green nylon leash on her. If the little one could just keep her teeth off of Rudy's collar........ I've run into a similar problem with the little Boxer shark next door. She *loves* playing tug, which is great, but not so much with leashes. Speaking of which, Marcie with her bum tail..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/96658169@N00/2502367894/ She looks very grown up; hardly a puppy anymore! -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

My situation seems to be completely different from yours, though. When my dogs wear collars, they're usually off-leash. When they don't wear collars, they're at home or on a slip lead at an agility trial. So far, though, when I do use the combo, quick release collars with leashes work around here. -- --Matt.
