My 11 year old and her BodiePup (JAD) went to their first beginning agility
class last night at DDT. His class consists of a Dal, a shepherd, a King Charles, a Pap, another JAD. They did the tunnel, ladder on the ground, and weaving poles. Since he really is "my dog", I was banished as a distraction. I did, however, get to watch from the novice class side. Much fun! Kind regards, (the)duckster |

FWIW even after four years of 4H classes, I am still persona non grata at the two big statewide competitions: the state fair in September and the April training workshop in Albuquerque. The time I was asked to guard an open gate so that no dogs would escape and Peanut decided to run to me halfway through the agility course is still remembered by my daughters. The dog will still sometimes look at me if they know I am in the stands at such venues, though they usually stay focussed in the familiar classroom surroundings. |

Kind regards, (the)duckster How exciting for your 11 yr. old! Way to go Bodie! My daughter is such an animal lover - hard not to be in my house. She's been "training" him for some time now. She has ridden hunter/jumper and dressage since she was six, so she started teaching Bodiie to jump cross rails and verticals using five gallong buckets and broomsticks. Unfortunately, he can jump the fence now as a result, but he's a pretty good boy and doesn't do it too often. That's when I decided that an eight week course in agility was just what the two of them needed. ![]() Kind regards, (the)duckster |

I was reading in the agility class entries that only purebreds can compete (which was sort of disapointing), so I guess we will be limited to classes unless I discover a "scrubs" contest. So much better than other activities kids can get into. Bodie looks like he enjoys being and achiever, and it's so good for your daughter to have interests in wholesome activities, especially those that include exercise. Too many kids now days spend most of their time sitting. Best of luck to your daughter and Bodie! td |

Assuming that you're in the US, the main agility venue which only allows purebred dogs to enter is the AKC. Here's a list of north american agility venues, almost all of them allow dogs of all types: http://www.dogplay.com/Activities/Agility/agilityo.html -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |
