Default Boxer mix?

I met the dog in person and am not really seeing it. Nice dog, really
needs a home.

That's an awfully long nose for a Boxer mix. Labs have fairly blunt
noses, as well, so I think that breed ID is wacky.

Yep. Basically, all I see is Pitbull (X?).

Is the group in the habit of calling Pits/Amstaffs and mixes thereof other
names to a) make them more palatable to the public and b) make them less
likely targets of BSL?

That was my thought as well.

My guess on the mix would be pit x BC.

Many Labs have long noses, especially field-bred Labs.

I've seen many Lab-mix dogs that looked just like the above dog.

Those aren't very good pictures of "Roo", and he could be (like most
mixes) just about anything, but, IMO, Lab/Boxer sounds feasible, too.

In the bouncing shot I thought "well, she's bouncy enough" and in the head
on shot I thought "well, she's jowly enough" and then I saw the profile and
thought...nah.

They do that he my friend just adopted a "lab / rhodesian ridgeback"
which is pretty clearly a lab/pb mix.

I think sometimes it's really hard to tell. I don't think anybody would
label Whiskey a rottie mix. Yet her mother was a rottweiler. If we hadn't
seen it ourselves, we'd never have guessed she had a rottie mother. That's
why I like to show the photo's of her with her mother, to prove it.

For some things, maybe. Others are pretty cut and dried. Muzzle
length, for a start, can rule out certain breeds. Roo's muzzle
length might be found in some Labs, but for him to be an F1 cross
from a Boxer, he ought to have a shorter muzzle than the non-Boxer
parent, not the same length. So I just don't see how he could be a
Boxer x Lab. BC x Lab or Collie x Lab, maybe?
