Default Thinking of Spencer

Although we lost Spencer in 2001, I don't think there is a day that
goes by that we don't think about him.

That was especially true this morning; we had our first ripe
strawberry. As I picked it, the stem broke and I suddenly got the image
of Spencer picking strawberries. He knew which were the ripe berries.
He would gently take the berry into his mouth and, keeping the stem
between his front teeth, he would gently pull back his head until the
berry was against his teeth and then he'd tip his head back to break
the stem. He'd then enjoy the fruits of his labor. It seemed like he
was born knowing how to harvest strawberries and grapes - certainly it
wasn't anything he was taught to do.

We enjoyed the berry and we enjoyed remembering our boy...

A sweet thought. Do you have a picture of him?

Kind regards,

What a great memory - and one that comes back every year.

That's sweet (in both senses of the word).

I have a similar emotional response to picking raspberries. Elliott
had his own little raspberry patch, where he picked his own fruit,
so I think of him whenever I pick raspberries.

I don't think he ever took a good picture. I'll have to see if I can
dig one up, but the boy looks "all nose" when he was far more "all
ears".

He was sort of a GSD/Golden/Collie mix.
