My poor little guy seems to have a back injury. We made a midnight run to
the emergency vet because he seemed to be breathing funny -- sharp intakes of breath, probably (according to the dr) because of pain. She shot him up with pain meds and he is on Rimadyl for 10 days and is supposed to rest for 3 weeks. So far he's sleeping under the bed and walking a bit with a sad droopy tail, very un-Pom like. I'll need to crate him when he starts feeling better to make sure he doesn't re-injure it. My own vet said that watching and waiting is their recommendation at this time, and we'll do x-rays if he doesn't improve. Let's hope he does, and this doesn't turn out to be chronic (back problems are common in poms). The e-vet also guessed his age to be around 8, about double what other vets and the rescue group have guessed, but more in keeping with what I've always thought. I feel worried and sad. -- Catherine & Zoe, Queenie, & Max, 3 black dogs of varying sizes & Rosalie the calico cat www.ourladyofperfection.blogspot.com |

Unfortunately, I think that's inevitable, especially when you don't know what's wrong. And then when they're acting pitiful, and you can't really tell if it's because they're in pain or stressed because you're stressed or what. This morning he tried to bark at me as I left, as he unfortunately usually does, and instead he just squeaked. It's funny that I want even the obnoxious behaviors back when any of the animals doesn't feel well. That whole "traditional dances of Pomerania" description engaged my imagination in more ways than I care to admit, but it included a whole costumed culture... |

They know some things that vets don't, including treatment things, and can be an incredible help in dealing with skeletal/muscular problems. The e-vet also guessed his age to be around 8, about double what other vets and the rescue group have guessed, Did she say why? Here's hoping that he's up and bouncing soon (well, in three weeks, anyway), and that you'll be doing your version of swearing at him for making you worry. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |
