I think there's some confusion here Diddy. If Tuck doesn't eat his food
(which is common), he's not bringing bowls regularly (since there's food
in it). Correct? He does bring bowls if Reka is present and he has
eaten his food. Correct? Just the food bowls, not the water bowl(s),
which I presume has water in it/them?

Just trying to clarify the whole food bowl thing.

I know what you mean. I understand that dogs are perfectly capable of
handling the situation, but I don't want them to.

That's why we have them sit and wait for a release to start eating. Of
course, after they master that, when lunchtime comes, I put food in
their dishes, go upstairs to let them in, they burst through the door
and run downstairs to chow down and sometimes I remember to tell them
their release word.

But some days we go through the ritual just so they don't forget. I
don't know what DH does in the morning with them, but I have my
suspicions that it's pretty much the same thing.

But when Beanie came here, Bella had a big problem with her getting
anywhere near Bella's bowl, so we had to work on that. Beanie can clean
Bella's bowl when she's finished with no problems (now).

No, I'm talking about when Reka is gone.

Don't you still put food out?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean it the way it came out. I simply read your post
and reflected upon the difficulty when Merlin first came to live with us.
Having one dog who wolfs her food down along with another dog who really
isn't food oriented, was a bit difficult. I used to have to pick up Merlins
dish if he didn't eat it. Now I can simply leave it there. Merlins the
first dog I've had that doesn't wait anxiously for his food. Just like
treats/food aren't very useful in his training. He can take 'em or leave
'em, unless it's something like bits of cooked chicken or bacon. Regular
dog biscuits, not so much. He's a strange duck.

Gracie is ready and waiting for each and every meal. Merlin, he likes to be
up and around a couple hours before he's ready for breakfast on most days.
He'll amble in about 11:00 a.m., and slowly, leisurely eat his breakfast.

He's a dog that loves to be engaged.

It also sounds like Tuck is pretty good at demanding attention from
you.

Does Tuck not know how to just kick back and relax?

I think you may be giving Tuck waaaaay too much attention.

In other words, the "behavior problem" here may be yours.

Anyway, I think you've been given some things to try, etc., and I hope
that you will follow through with them next week, when Reka's gone.

For Tuck's sake, and for your own.

Good luck in Michigan!

I"m thinking that as well. Just "being" is an important skill.
