Early this evening I took Muttley for another hike on the NCRR trail, from
Phoenix to the bridge near the Lime Kiln. While sitting on a bench watching birds, we saw a man approaching with a fair sized young dog that looked a lot like a wolf, but was more likely a Husky mix. She looked a lot like the picture of a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saarlooswolfhond or the wolf/malemute hybrid shown he http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Establi..._breeds#Breeds The man said she was friendly, and allowed her and Muttley to exchange dog greetings. She was very calm and submissive, actually rolling onto her back at my feet next to Muttley. It was time to head back to the car, and I intended to leave some space between us, but she seemed to want to walk along with Muttley, so we stayed fairly close. Muttley was, as usual, fairly aloof, but did not seem to mind when she sometimes came up to him and gave him a playful kiss on the ear. There was absolutely no sign of snarkiness or any other potential problem. I noticed that when this "wolf-dog" walked, she had a very light gait, and her hips did not move ver much, but Muttley tends to "waddle" his rear end a bit as he walks. I did take him to the vets and he has lost a little more weight. Continued frequent walks on the trail should help a lot, for him and me both ![]() Now, play nice! Paul and Muttley |
