Strange, I am male, I feed the dog, I give him water, I walk him, but he still follows my wife around the house. WIFE DOESN'T LIKE IT. How do I attach him to me? He is a good dog. He is trying to fix the situation by being loyal and attentive towards her. And, she seems more like the leader of the pack, because you do the chores, of feeding and walking, you seem like the worker bee to him, and wife is of course Queen Bee. If your wife would purposely pay him some positve attention, he would probably relax, and back off. |

Is there any sort of research that backs this theory up? I've never heard that the person who provides the dog with everything is dismissed by a dog as a drone. If your wife would purposely pay him some positve attention, he would probably relax, and back off. Has this been your experience? |

From having a similar experience, and then being directed to reading about 'dog pack theory.' He is trying to fix the situation by being loyal and attentive towards her. And, she seems more like the leader of the pack, because you do the chores, of feeding and walking, you seem like the worker bee to him, and wife is of course Queen Bee. Has this been your experience? Absolutely. Our college freshman son got himself a lovely German Shephard puppy, promising to take care of her. Of course, he can't really because he works and goes to school, and then goes out with his friends- SO of course I feed her, walk her, hang out with her, and I spend far more time with her than anyone else does. Now, my husband was not happy about the puppy idea, and tried to ignore her, and to pretend like she was not chewing up everything and shedding everywhere. So he would pretty much deny her existence. The dog became crazy in love with him, following him whenever he came home, sat as close to him as possible whenever she could, and if he did happen to pay her any attention, she would be so thankful and full of joy. She would wag her tail so hard it was unreal. If he looks down and sees a mess she has made, she runs away to hide in shame until she feels safe to come back. He has never hit her or mistreated her in any way. She is just so aware of everything he thinks about her. Not so much with my opinion. If I see a torn up item, or a mess, she kind of shrugs, and looks at me, like, whatever, sorry. She loves me dearly, but she treats me more like a litter mate, or like a worker bee. A trainer told me its likely that because I feed her,and praise her, every day, no matter what she does, good or bad, she thinks, why try to please me. There is no point other than that she loves me. but she knows I love her. BUT She will do backflips for my husband if she thinks he will give her a pat on the head meanwhile. |
