So, did I miss any bison?
How was the hike? And how was the Grapehound event overall? There is a group from downstate in PA who always seem to be doing a greyhound event at a local movie theater the same weekend (Saturday) as Grapehound. Are they part of the weekend events? Judy |

We left about 45 minutes later than all the other people and dogs, so Chris had fewer ignorant comments about Fawkes being a greyhound mix. And how was the Grapehound event overall? It's always fun to taste wine and get a change of scenery, and the finger lakes is such a beautiful area. Alsotoo, it was great to see Melinda and Chris again, and sooner or later I will get over the fact that Melinda was not accompanied by Jack or any other huskies. I do plan to do some complaining and suggesting about the dog-friendliness of the whole event. I have no idea. In the past, profits from ticket sales were split among some New York greyhound groups, but I don't know whether that's still the case. Like most greyhound events, this one has grown and probably will continue to do so. We missed you! Mustang Sally |

That was pretty awesome. There's something surreal about seeing that many greyhounds in one place. For awhile we walked behind one with alopecia-butt, and that was kind of scenic. It was great to see Sally, (and her friend... argh I can't remember her name - Dianne?), Sally's greyhound, Music, and Melinda again. When I got there I was looking for Music but there were numerous brindle greyhounds here, there & everywhere and frankly they all look alike to me. I think I have moderate case of prosopagnosia (face blindness) because I didn't recognize Sally at all. I should've known by the outfit (those were mighty tall heels for a hike but I guess Sally likes to live life on the edge). I have to admit that I was a bit uneasy about Soren meeting Sally - I don't want him to grow up too fast, IYKWIM. I've met Melinda several times before but even if I had forgotten her face, the breastplates are a dead giveaway. Fawkes was a total bonehead - he was stoked about seeing all those dogs and he was sure that with his charisma & a whole bunch of well placed nose pokes, they would have a grand time - or at least he would. The vast majority of greyhounds, however, take a very dim view of being forcefully probed by a teenage Collie-Thug and, thus, Fawkes was the subject of a few snarks when I let him get too close. Music seized up Fawkes in the first minute and gave him a stern look & raised lip to warn him to keep his distance. The trail was pretty busy so I had to keep Fawkes on a very short leash (sometimes only a couple of inches long) and had to resort to the prong/buckle collar combo. I had suspected he would get overly excited about the walk so, thankfully, I had taken him for a nice long job that morning. Since Fawkes was prevented from committing greyhound assault, he made sure evidence was left that a Mighty! Stud! Dog! had been there. He has the fastest leg in the east and marked trees with barely a break in his stride. I'm disappointed about not seeing Jack but it may have been for the best. I strongly suspect Jack & Fawkes would really hit it off and both Melinda & I would have been hard pressed to contain our boisterous boys. Anyway, we took some photos but my card reader is Kaput and I'm waiting for my new one to arrive. Chris and the smoothies, Lucy, Fawkes and Bree the spare |

I tend to imagine that everybody else's puppies are perfectly behaved and it's only mine who are bouncing off the walls and dragging other dogs around by the tail and whatnot. I've been dogless for three days and so far I've learned that 1) I don't sleep any better with the dogs gone, and 2) being dogless sucks. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

... Teddy wouldn't have snarked at Fawkes, for whatever that's worth. Had I brought him, Fawkes would have some of the cleanest teeth around. Aw well. If the schnauzers had been there we would have had snarking. Until we actually got *moving* and then there would have more interesting things to see and do and SMELL. And Spenser would have probably gotten completely dehydrated trying to best Fawkes at marking. However, when he runs out of pee, he switches to poop. He also likes, when walking in a group of dogs, to be first. Since he also feels the need to mark *over* everyone else, this does create quite a dilemma for him. And Sassy, bossy little bitch that she is, would have made sure that *she* marked the highest on the tree. Although I hate to tell her that a 12 inch dog, even backed up on a tree and standing on her front legs only (yes, she does), still wouldn't have been higher than Fawkes. I am really sorry that I missed it all. I noticed that Chris described Sally and Melinda but left off her own physical description. I mean, I've met her and I know what she looks like, but I'm really intrigued by the thought that neither of you felt the need to comment. Judy |

Yes we did get a couple of group photos taken but they are still in my camera as, alas, my card reader is dead and a new one is on order from Amazon. Chris, at work, no smoothies |
