Default Feeding 6 month beagle

Hi -I have a beagle bitch who is TOTALLY disinterested in her kibble! She
turns her nose up at breakfast -I remove it and offer her lunch, which she
does not eat, so I remove that and offer dinner, which she usually does, but
not all of it -bear in mind I only put in the third of her days ration, not
all three portions together!

She gets no other treats during the day -if I'm doing a bit of training I
offer bits of kibble(from lunch or whatever) and she will have some then,
but I am talking about very small amounts.

I have experimented and squirted the contents of a fish oil capsule onto her
breakfast, and she gobbled it. But this is no good -she has to eat what I
give her!! I am feeding her Arden Grange chicken puppy kibble - tried a bag
of Nutro puppy (lamb) -same thing. I am not going to keep chopping and
changing foods! HELP!!!

At six months their metabolism can start slowing down and
they can start needing less food. I've recently cut my
puppy's feed by about 60% for just that reason. I'm
extremely diligent about monitoring weight and found that he
was starting to bulk up, so I was able to cut back his feed
before we got to the point where we stopped eating, but
years ago I've had a puppy stop eating because what had been
his usual ration had become just plain too much food as he
matured.

This is going to sound harsh but isn't, and it's how I've
gotten poor eaters with the program: skip meals for a day
(make sure plenty of water is available), and on the second
day go to half rations. After that you may want to increase
the food a little bit but not much. Keep an eye on her
weight throughout.

I think Melinda has some sound advice and maybe this goes without
saying
but whenever a dogs appetite changes it's a good idea to watch for
signs of
a health problem. It may just be a matter of the dog needing less to
eat as
his growth slows down, but it also can be a sign of a problem so it
doesn't
hurt to do a little home checkup to see if there are any signs of
illness and
to keep an eye out for any symptoms of an illness.

If you think it is just a matter of her not liking the food, you may
want to
experiment with other foods because they may be having a slight
allergic
reaction to something in the food that may be putting them off it.
They
just don't know how to tell you that it bothers them. You may want to
do
a quick a href="http://www.dogfoodcomparisons.net"Dog Food
Comparison/a to find a healthy alternative
for her that she likes.
