Hi -I have a beagle bitch who is TOTALLY disinterested in her kibble! She
turns her nose up at breakfast -I remove it and offer her lunch, which she does not eat, so I remove that and offer dinner, which she usually does, but not all of it -bear in mind I only put in the third of her days ration, not all three portions together! She gets no other treats during the day -if I'm doing a bit of training I offer bits of kibble(from lunch or whatever) and she will have some then, but I am talking about very small amounts. I have experimented and squirted the contents of a fish oil capsule onto her breakfast, and she gobbled it. But this is no good -she has to eat what I give her!! I am feeding her Arden Grange chicken puppy kibble - tried a bag of Nutro puppy (lamb) -same thing. I am not going to keep chopping and changing foods! HELP!!! |

Has she been losing weight as a result of this limited food intake? Has she ever had a good appetite and if so, what was she eating then? (What did breeder feed?) When was her latest vet check and did that show any problem? How much exercise does she get? What is her energy level? (does she act lethargic?) Does she live indoors? Are you opposed to giving her a tablespoon of cottage cheese or canned food with her kibble? M |

If not and she is coming into season then that can cause some females to go off their food. If she is otherwise healthy and if there have been no changes in her behaviour, weight, activity level, stress level (or major changes in the house environment - all of which can cause them to go off their feed a bit) then the other thing that you could try is splitting her food between two meals, one morning and one night, instead of three, not all dogs need the lunch meal at six months of age, but always go by whatever your breeder has advised. The other thing to consider is that not all dogs like kibble, and if that is all she is ever fed, there is nothing to get enthused about kwim? It would be pretty boring getting the same old dry kibble trhee times a day, day in day out. Maybe try mixing in some table scraps/ veges or give her some Raw Meaty Bones that she has to actually work for to get the meat off (this is so good for them and will make her teeth so much healthier when she is older).
