cat, some days she gets a 15 min walk later on in the day, she appears to
all intents and purposes absolutely normal, I'm just flummoxed as to why she
wont eat breakfast or lunch, and even when she turns her nose up at dinner
and I take it away, she is not hungry the next morning!!

I would guess she's getting too much food. I posted a
response over in rec.pets.dogs.health (when you ask a

Yep I know, thanks -I posted different groups as I thought I would get a
variety of replies....As for the too much food....maybe...but she does not
eat ANY breakfast or lunch, I could understand if I gave her a portion and
she only ate half, or a third, then I would regulate the amount offered. But
I am going by slightly less than the amount recommended on the bag of food(I
have fed Arden Grange for years) and divided it into three......

Seriously, she's adorable.

I can almost smell her from here.

She looks pleasingly plump, too, so I think she's probably getting
enough food, relative to her level of activity.

Probably because she's getting all that she needs (and maybe more than she
needs) from that one meal. Cut all the way back to the amount of food she
eats in a day, not what you think she should be eating. Split that into
two
or three feedings, and see if she's more inclined towards eating all of
it.
I've known a few dogs that will only eat during certain times of day;
maybe
you have one of those.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it as long as she is healthy and active
and
at a good weight.

Blimey....I could try that, give her a third of what I think she would want
to eat, and the divide that into three.....I just find it odd!

Dogs aren't people, and don't eat like people.

If she's not eating and is staying healthy, active, alert,
etc., that's a big fat clue right there. Her behavior and
appearance suggests she's getting her nutritional needs met
(and then some) and you say she's not eating. 2 + 2 = ... ?

According to the Arden Grange web site, she (dogs 20 pounds/9 kilos)
should be eating somewhere between 123-185 grams per day. I had to
use the numbers for adult food, because I couldn't find any puppy
numbers, but they should be somewhat similar.
http://www.ardengrange.com/Pet-Food/...24#Feedinguide

And you said she's eating about a third of the 250 grams you're
putting down for her, or ~83 grams. Are you absolutely certain? If
you're off by just a little bit, and she's actually eating closer to
125 grams per day, she's probably eating more than enough food for her
level of activity.

So find out exactly how much food she's actually *eating*.

And just as plump?

If so, she's just fine.

Back when I first got Khan, I used to hand feed him, because he wouldn't eat
very much, and I was positive that I was feeding him the right amount, what
was recommended on the bag. I was using an empty container of liver treats
'cause the container held 8 oz of liver treats, and I was working under the
assumption that since 8 oz = 1 cup, I was in fact feeding him 1 cup of
kibble. HAH! I was waaay overfeeding the dog.

Once I got a proper measuring cup and started feeding him according to his
body condition, he started eating with no prodding from me. Now, he drools
while waiting for his food and bucks like a horse once I pick up the bowl.
