You can be sure we'll be thinking of him here. And make sure HE gets these meatballs instead of you! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Yes, Ma'am!!! Poor boy. He's such a good patient. When our vet was taking his BP on Thursday, he was shaking a little, but he just laid quietly with us stroking him until we told him he could get up. Same thing with the blood draw and all the eye testing (fluids, lights). Awww. What a good boy he is. Thanks, Terri. FurPaw -- The plural of anecdote is not proof. To reply, unleash the dog. |

So tomorrow when you know more you'll post an update, yes? Oppie's home, minus an eye, somewhat disoriented, but otherwise seemingly ok. The vet said the surgery went well. So we're just keeping an eye on him (so to speak), letting him sleep it off. They didn't send him home with an Eliz. collar - said he was unlikely to loosen the sutures, especially since he has no dew-claws. What do you all think about that? There are no signs of him pawing at the eye yet, but he's still pretty zonked. Thanks (everyone!) for your concern and good wishes. FurPaw -- The plural of anecdote is not proof. I've seen Ricki Lee paw at her eyes, but only with the sides of her paws. Cats too, now that I think about it, use the sides of their paws for cleaning their faces. We are very glad Oppie is out of surgery, home, and doing well if zonked. It should be all downhill from here. Oppie has now earned the RPDB Badge of Honor. Wear it proudly Oppie! Karla |

Of all of the dogs I've had an all of the surgeries they've had I've never had a problem with a dog messing with sutures. It happens, obviously, but I tend to think your vet will have a good sense about that. I don't know about the need for the collar. I'd just watch him closely and if he seems to be having problems with it, call the vet back. Like Karla said, my dogs usually rub their faces/eyes with the sides of their paws. best, td |
