Default Returning hematoma for my dog Julius

I'm at my wits end :-(, poor little guy. Juliuis has had 2 surgeries,
one convential, one laser. He lasted about 1 month this time since
the laser surgery.

What if Julius just has the hematoma now without treatment? Is it
painful for him? It's just starting up now again. I've kept him from
other dogs; the last time it came back we had JUST came from the dog
park. Well, last night we went out on he golf course where I live and
he met up with another dog. They didn't really play, just ran around
with eachother.

Repeated hematoma's - is there no end? Any one the same experience?

Erik & Julius.

On his left ear. We just got back from the vet... .we are now going
to try Prednisone (with Ace to balance the speediness) for a few
months... hope meds help.

I'm going to do warm compresses as well and keep him away from playing
with other does for a while.

Are you wrapping his ear to the head?

When our BC, Andy, had a hematoma on his ear the vet operated, removing a
strip of skin about a centimeter wide. The incision was left open to
facilitate drainage. The ear was stitched to a piece of x-ray film to
keep it flat. Dried exudate and drainage was removed with warm water
compresses twice a day and antibiotic ointment was applied.

When healing was complete the stitches and x-ray film were removed. The
hematoma did not reoccur but the ear did stick out at a different angle
than its mate due to the scar tissue.

I myself had a hematoma on my shin caused by my BC, Zane, slamming into me
skull-first at a flyball tournament. My daughter had been videotaping the
racing and asked me if it hurt. My reply was colorful enough to mandate
editing of the tape. I should have seen a doctor about it but I didn't
and it calcified into a knot the size and shape of an egg. Took about two
years to be reabsorbed.

A neighbour friend of mine had two small sons who played with my kids when
they were little. One day the five year old fell out of his mom's moving
car and landed on his forehead on the pavement. He developed a knot right
in the middle of his forehead that looked like a good sized chicken egg with
the pointy end cut off and then glued on his head. Once over the horror, we
used to joke that he looked like he was growing a horn, unicorn-like. It
was over two years before it was gone. Brucie was fine, no brain damage or
fracture, and once the kids were done teasing him, no one even noticed
anymore. Until then I had no idea an injury like that could take so long to
heal.

I think its the amount of time to heal, like Phyrie said, that is my
issue with Julius. He's just going to have to be alone for a while...
no dog park, playing with others, visitors instructed not to pet his
head, etc...
I don't have his ear bandaged to his head; he was smar enough to open
the dog door as well as take off the cone of silience, he'll get that
off pretty fast OR hurt himself in the process.

Thanks, this simple issue SUCKS and i'm very sad for Julius.

he is now 10mg Prednisone twice daily with some ACE to off set the
speedy side effect.

Erik
