Marcie is feeling her oats. Still bleeding, a week today. Not sure how
much since she hasn't had her diaper on since getting up this morning. She and Rudy definitely have a mutual admiration society going. While I still supervise them very closely, or confine her, I am SO glad he's neutered. I'm ready for this to be over, but I guess my opinion doesn't really matter! -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

If you can get her to the DC airport by 12:34 today, she can be in Binghamton at 2:03. Or if that's a little tight for your schedule, you can get her to DC by 5:23 and she will arrive in Binghamton at 6:52. Tomorrow morning, there's an 8:18 flight out of DC that arrives in Binghamton at 9:47A. I couldn't find anything that went from Baltimore to the Ithaca airport that didn't involve a transfer in NYC, Philadelphia or Boston. And - I only checked one way. Because when Melinda is through having her fun, I'll just pick her up and bring Marcie to my house. Where she will be spayed - because I'm pretty sure that even though Spenser is neutered that he would behave like a complete butthead around her. And Sassy is one completely dominant bossy little bitch. I have three duck ponds in sight of my house - and several more nearby. And the neighbors raise birds to release on their own property to work their dogs. And, she'd probably like agility too, don't you think? HTH Judy |

I'm not showing her the offer of duck ponds. Yes, she would like agility! Sigh - I cannot bear to part with her forever, so I will need to decline your kind offer. Right now they are both occupied chasing the pool cleaner. I'll take these intervals of obsession. The only solace I have is that I don't have to go through this again. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

... Wow Judy - SO thoughtful and thorough! I'm not showing her the offer of duck ponds. Our neighbors are involved in a federal program that built six (!) shallow ponds in the fields out back of our house. These ponds are 18 inches to maybe three feet deep. They are intended to filter water on its way to the Chesapeake Bay. And another major reason for their existence is to provide nesting sites for ducks. This is the first year they have been filled since being built and about half of them had nesting pairs. I expect that next year they all will have nests. So *those* ponds aren't too great for swimming but just down through the woods, there is another, older, regular pond. That one even has a dock and is used on a daily basis by the neighbor's own three labs. And, amazing to me, also by their grand-dog, an English Bulldog who races the labs to the bumpers. AND, just as a side note, the bulldog's name is Gus. The only solace I have is that I don't have to go through this again. Been there, done that. Which is why she would be promptly spayed at my house. When we got Sassy (at two), she was not spayed - because she had been having her show career. We held off bringing her home for a month so that she could have a heat cycle at the breeder's house and then as soon as we were sure she was staying with us, I made the spay appointment. Even more than the mess in the house and the buttheaded Spenser, I just couldn't imagine going to two agility trials a month and having a dog who was coming into heat twice a year. Twice a year, she'd have to be pulled from trials but I'd still have to take her with us and deal with that whole thing on the road and surrounded by 200 other dogs. I'm reading the literature and the research on neutering male dogs and I'm not sure when - or even if - I would do another male. But I'm very clear on females - they WILL be spayed and as soon as possible. Judy |

Hopefully she'll have a long and successful flyball career, and especially with a team sport, pulling her due to heat is just not something I'd want to have to do. I discussed it with her breed of course, and she wasn't intended to be bred ever (limited registration as well), but we agreed that one heat was a good thing for her health. She'll get spayed around Thanksgiving, for the least disruption in training schedules. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

She'll get spayed around Thanksgiving, for the least disruption in training schedules. That was one of the first things I mentioned to Sassy's breeder. We had gotten Spenser with a spay/neuter requirement. The breeder held the AKC paperwork until after he was neutered at 11 months (done growing). Sassy at two had her show championship and the litter that included her and Spenser turned out very well. Her mother was then retiring from breeding so I wasn't certain that the breeder didn't have (in the back of her mind) leaving her intact and perhaps using her at some point. I made it very clear from the start that spaying was a requirement for ME. And that if she had any thoughts (and I didn't know if she did or didn't) about not spaying that we would not be taking her. Nope, nope, nope. Not going through that whole heat thing again. Judy |
