Last night I saw a young man walking the most adorable Pit Bull puppy... That's heartbreaking. You have to wonder if the person is blissfully unaware of the law, or just doesn't care? Yes. I didn't want to tell him. I assume the puppy is too little to have a license, which might have triggered a visit from the animal warden - which may possibly have allowed that puppy to be grandfathered in. Meanwhile, there is a petition for a referendum issue moving forward, but too many people won't stand up for "dangerous" dogs. And it isn't about dogs, in reality, it's a racial issue. |

I got home from cat sitting this morning to find that the management folks had sent out fliers to everyone in my building. Apparently, folks have been letting their dogs run loose. They've also gotten complaints about people letting their dogs relieve themselves out front (a huge no-no that's addressed in our leases) and on the sidewalks (yuck!), and that people aren't cleaning up after their dogs. We went to the closing of the pool on Sunday - a local YMCA has dog games in the pool on the last day. Very fun, and constant announcements to pick up after your dog. There was an, oh, about 14 year old girl there. Her dog left a pile on the cement, poolside. She started to walk away, and the lady sitting there asked her to clean it up. She looked at it, looked at the lady, and replied... I'm not cleaning up that ****. And walked away. At the other end of the pool, a dog had vomited right beside the pool, the owner left it. Was there anybody overseeing the event that she could have been reported to? She should have been told by the organizers to clean it up and/or escorted out of the event! Kathy She left on her own accord shortly after the incident. Sue and Atty |

I think it's hard for many people to see that BSL affects everyone who owns a dog. That, and the sad fact that far too many people are just plain scared of bully breeds (and, related to your below point, "those scary brown people"). It's hard to reason with fear. And it isn't about dogs, in reality, it's a racial issue. That's horrible, but not surprising. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

I don't have a problem standing behind it, but I want it to be in black and white. Spoken conversations have a way of getting misinterpreted. I suppose it would be too much of a pain in the neck to get *pictures* of the dogs pooping where they shouldn't? |

I really don't want to do that, though, because I don't want to be a big, fat tattle-tale. On the other hand, the stakes are kind of high. I have no such reservations when it comes to this. Rat them out. Absolutely concur. Jerks are due zero consideration. I'd need a dozen baggies daily were I to clean up after the other dogs on the route Baron and I take every morning. You know, no one wants to rat out people but you and Harriet are at risk here.... _____________________________ Shelly, That does make for an uncomfortable situation to have to explain to management that it is a Harriet look alike....but I would do it in a heartbeat. I would imagine that management may still give Kayla's owners a warning before ousting them and if someone has got to be looking for a new home I don't think it should be you and Harriet. "Judith Althouse" wrote in message ... That does make for an uncomfortable situation to have to explain to management that it is a Harriet look alike....but I would do it in a heartbeat. I did! And I talked to the head of maintenance. She said that the problem was with the folks above her (Kayla's owners) and with someone in the next court, who has been letting their Pit Bull run loose. Surprisingly, it was not the same Pit Bull that I always see running loose. Now, why they can't just deal with those people and leave everyone else out of it, beats me. I've noticed a sudden lack of land mines on the front laws and sidewalks, which is good. I hope this means that Kayla's owners got the message. They do seem to be taking the dogs out back more often, and I've seen them out walking in the neighboorhood, as well. Of course, they still aren't picking up after their dogs, which is going to get people in the neighborhood pissed off at them. I don't walk my dog in the same area that they do, though, so I'm keeping my nose out of it. I would imagine that management may still give Kayla's owners a warning before ousting them and if someone has got to be looking for a new home I don't think it should be you and Harriet. The notice said that they'd be charging a $50 fine and revoking pet leases (not one then the other, but both, and there was no mention of an initial warning). Note that the human's lease is not going to be revoked. That means that those tenants would have to get rid of their pet(s) or pay out the rest of their lease and move or get a subletter (assuming that would be allowed by the management company). -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

"Shelly" wrote in message ... Now, why they can't just deal with those people and leave everyone else out of it, beats me. Because that's how administration works. Send a note to everyone, then they don't have to deal with the individual who's causing the trouble. It's the chicken way of dealing with problems. Happens at our school all the time. General announcements (for example, about being late to work or wearing inappropriate shoes) instead of discussing it with the offender(s). It's not like they don't know who's late or wearing flip flops. They just don't want to *be the boss* and deal with the issue directly. We have 1 or 2 staff members who are habitually late, but we get general announcements on our daily announcement sheet about it repeatedly. It sure doesn't solve the problem because these people don't think they're the ones the note refers to. It's the Ann Landers/letter to the editor syndrome. They're not talking about me. I say "man up" (so to speak - our last 3 out of 4 administrators were/are women) and talk to the person who's causing the trouble. If I'm not the issue, then don't bother me. It's the professional thing to do. Sue and Atty |

I think it is hard for many people to see that BSL affects everyone that owns a dog. ______________________________ That is the part that upsets me. I don't understand how others cannot grasp the concept that today it is happening to my dog/breed. Tomorrow it could be yours. People should unite, get together on it and stop BSL. The sad truth is it is often not the breed that is of concern it is the dog. I know plenty of nasty dogs that are NOT Pit Bulls. One lives next door to me. He is a Chi mix, but his bite still hurts and he scares people. Be Free.....Judy |
