Some of you may remember mention of a Golden rescue named Nikki. Paul
liked to criticize her. Well, here she is today:

Here she is on July 6, 2007, almost 60# heavier (yes, 60#,). She
currently weighs 49.2#.

I don't recall Paul critcizing her, but she's MUCH better!

I never criticized her, and I commended Janet on her efforts to take care
of her. I only used Nikki as an example of what a truly morbidly obese dog
was, when almost everyone criticized me because Muttley was somewhat
overweight, and continued to do so even when he was getting in better
shape.

She was being fostered by my sister. who failed at fostering, but
succeeded at weight reduction.

Your sister has really done a fabulous job. That's nothing short of
*amazing*!

Oh, sorry - she's still with my sister as an adopted dog rather than a
foster.

I love a happy ending.

a huge tribute to the people who care enough about
her to take all that weight off!

When I went to evaluate her, she was living with her original owner's
adult son and his young Boxer. He told me that she wasn't housebroken
(couldn't make it overnight) and didn't get along with his other dog.
Well, the 2 dogs were doing just fine and she's never had an accident
since we took her. He sent her with a bag of "special food", which I
think was Kibbles n' Bits (just a ziploc bag, so I have no idea) -
something very colorful that went right into the trash. And a bottle of
thyroid meds that I am skeptical she got regularly.

The vet was one who came to the home. It seems she had never left the
house and yard with her elderly owners. She saw the vet annually, and
although there was obviously no scale, nobody could mistake that she was
grossly overweight! The son had her shaved down because she was
apparently so matted and filthy that he couldn't stand her around.

I stopped and bought Canidae Platinum on the way to bring her to my
sister for fostering, and we made sure she got her thyroid meds. She
also had stairs in the house now, and went from basically being a lump
on the floor, to a dog who could trot up and down the stairs with
increasing ease, and loved to play ball (she came with a filthy version
of that giraffe ball, which was so dirty you couldn't tell the pattern.
I bought her the new one at Christmas). She went for walks for the
first time in her life and didn't get crap food.

She's a totally sweet little (she's very short in height and length)
girl and a perfect match for my sister. I am just thrilled at her
turnaround!

I don't really follow purely political blogs but that one
looks pretty cute.
