Default Degrees of Separation

I'm home today with a sinus infection (bleah) and a little while ago
there was a knock on the door. It turned out to be someone to measure
my kitchen sink, which the building is replacing (long story, but it
involves unintentional damage done to it by the building engineer). He
tried to get Peanut to come over and say hello, but no.

Anyway, it turns out that he went hunting with someone who co-owns a
hunting lodge in Alaska with, among others (?), Sarah Palin's father;
this someone also has a dog "who looks like him [pointing at Peanut],
but with longer ears, and just a bit larger" that was given to him by
Sarah Palin. (There may actually need to be a "knows someone who"
before the word "co-owns" in the first sentence, I wasn't taking notes.)

I lost count somewhere in there, but I think there are less than six
degrees of separation between Peanut and a dog that was owned by Sarah
Palin at one point.

Also, shortly after Westminster, we ran into a woman on the street whose
mother had gotten to meet Uno the weekend before. That one's easier to
add up!

My dogs have 4 degrees of separation from Palin's dogs.

Why are we admitting this?

Not only have I met Uno, I've met David Frei and had lunch with one of
Uno's owners today, as we do at least once a week.

Heaven's, yes! But now we're in faint praise territory.

As it's starting to cool off at night things that ought to
be living outside are trying to move inside and some of them
have succeeded, so for the past few nights I've been woken
up every few hours as 5 dogs launch themselves off my bed
and run downstairs to investigate the noise. They've had
some hunting success (obPalin), and I promise you that if
there's more talk of how many degrees removed we are from
Sarah Palin or about tiny's husband's nether bits, I'm going
to tell some really significantly appallingly awful
dogs-with-rats stories.
