Alot of rescues use old ice coolers as shelters. They are insulated all you
need to do is cut a hole for an entrance. The oblong ones are best that way they can get to the one end away from the entrance and the wind. Celeste "tiny dancer" wrote in message .. . Any suggestions on shelter for an outdoor cat/kitten? It appears a starving cat/kitten has adopted us. The poor thing is nothing more than skin and bones. It belongs to some crappy neighbor who's outdoor cat spits out at least two litters a year, most of whom appear to disappear/die? It's the same cat that dropped off a litter in daughters garage right before the puppy litter. td |

The BEST way to help this is to TNR the mother. Period. Since the kitten is social, get thee to a decent shelter where it has a chance of a decent life after S/N and vaccination. Assuming it's healthy of course. But you wouldn't want to leave a sick or carrier cat out and about anyway, right? -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

It's not necessary for TD to adopt this kitten, and perhaps jeopardize her daughter's health in the process, to be part of the solution. Providing shelter, water, and food, for the cats, and perhaps (maybe with the help of her neighbors, a sympathetic vet, etc.) get them all spayed/neutered is more than enough. The only reason that you even replied to TD was because you saw it as another opportunity to take more cheap-shots at her. I never suggested that she should. Being part of the solution can be done in many ways. Providing shelter, water, and food, for the cats, and perhaps (maybe with the help of her neighbors, a sympathetic vet, etc.) get them all spayed/neutered is more than enough. I agree, although that kitten, since social, has a good chance of being adopted into a home instead of being just another outdoor cat. The only reason that you even replied to TD was because you saw it as another opportunity to take more cheap-shots at her. Not in the least, but I'm not surprised you see it that way. I don't like roaming cats, for many reasons. snip inane ramble -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

I would never suggest than an asthmatic allergic to cats should adopt and keep a cat indoors. If she wants to DO something, providing a doghouse is inadequate. I stand by that. She can continue to not help do anything about the cat across the street, or the kitten, and watch the cycle go on and on (and then she can bitch about it here!) or she can try harder and try to be part of the solution. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

You're reading that crap into it. No I'm not. I'm reading *your* words. I would never suggest than an asthmatic allergic to cats should adopt and keep a cat indoors. Then why try to quilt-trip TD? I'll tell you why. It's because you're a nasty, petty, mean-spirited bimbo. If she wants to DO something, providing a doghouse is inadequate. I stand by that. That's because you're a nasty, petty, mean-spirited bimbo. Providing them shelter, food, and water is a good start. That more than qualifies as DOING something. If she wants to take a shot at solving the problem, too, she can trap them and then get them all spayed/neutered, find homes for them, etc., but she probably doesn't want to go to jail over it either. She's attempting to do more than anyone else in the area is, so why not just congratulate her for at least trying to help? Oh yeah. I forgot. Nasty, petty, mean-spirited bimbos don't do stuff like that. -- Handsome Jack Morrison Thinking about giving the Democrats even more power, are you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs Video: Who’s responsible for the Fannie and Freddie mess? http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/2...-freddie-mess/ Who's to blame? http://www.commentarymagazine.com/bl...hp/rubin/32011 How the Democrats Created the Financial Crisis. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=aSKSoiNbnQY0 Prayer, God and War: The Media Elites v. I don't think it's about the bitching. It's about the I'MAGOODPERSONAREALLYREALLYGOODPERSONDON'TYOUAGREE I'MAGOODPERSONDAMNIAMONEGOODPERSON, it seems to me. The day tiny goes out and does a good thing without sending up signal flares is the day the sun rises in the west. If she were actually interested in helping and didn't know what to do, she'd have gone over to the cat newsgroups where there are people involved with cat rescue or otherwise contacted people with actual cat rescue experience. But people over there don't know her, while people here do. When my mother found some orphaned feral kittens I suggested that she get in touch with a cat rescue organization in her city, and she did and they were an enormous help. But she's not so much about the cries and pleas and demands for attention, and more about being effective and getting stuff done. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |
