Default Cubbe's got day

If you're a stickler for calendars, I could say that we brought Cubbe
home on October 14, 1998 which would make her gotday tomorrow, but it
was Columbus Day and a Monday, so I think that makes her gotday today.
As near as we can figure, she's 11 years old.

It was Canadian Thanksgiving that night. We had guests over, 2 college
freshman, one from Saskatchewan. Cubbe didn't bark, didn't react,
suffered herself to be petted. Our guests, in addition to remarking how
funny it felt to be in a house after weeks in the dorm, said that Cubbe
was fine and were surprised that we'd just come home with her that day.

We weren't sure what to make of Cubbe when we got her. She didn't act
like a dog. She didn't follow us from room to room. She didn't greet
us at the door. She didn't even engage in doggy non-wanted behaviors
like sneaking food off of tables or counters. She just stood there and
showed no creativity. Also, she had this stupid curly tail that gave
her an off-balance chopped off appearance. I'd thrown a tantrum at the
shelter to convince Jim we were going home with a dog, but after we got
Cubbe, I wasn't sure I liked her. I considered that we might have
gotten the wrong dog.

Needless to say, that was a long time ago. Cubbe is the most perfect
dog, just different. It may have started when she decided that her
den/crate was under the futon. Now THAT was creative!

So here it is perfect weather again. Cubbe is quickly gaining
most-walked-dog status. I can't stand looking at the bright blue skies,
green-orange-red-yellow leaves still on the trees, and not being out in
the 70 degree temperatures. I'm not sure Cubbe likes being walked so
often. She's certainly up to the exercise, but she has trouble making
sure she has enough material to mark with.

Anyway, Comcast is going to stop carrying usenet in a week. I know it
would be easy to find another newsreader, but I'm going to use the
opportunity to break my addiction to usenet. Let's see how this goes.
Most addictions aren't broken on the first try. With usenet, I spend
more time checking for the intermittent positive reinforcement of the
truly good stuff than it's worth. If I need to report on something
important, I'll email one of the regulars for help. If you need me,
this email address works. Put "dog group" in the subject line so I
don't see an address I don't recognize and delete it as spam.

I guess every Comcast customer on usenet had heard this but me!
_I_ didn't get the email notification, even though I've gotten a
raft of them lately telling me how much better my Comcrap service
is going to get.

Do you think they will be decreasing the monthly bill?

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

I got an email from them sometime last week. They sure as heck didn't
give much warning. As for the other crap they've been sending updates
on, I'm getting a little tired of it.

Anyway, a couple of alternate Usenet providers:

http://www.motzarella.org (free and mostly reliable)
http://www.individual.net (cheap and very reliable)

Do you think they will be decreasing the monthly bill?

That's crazy talk!

Heck - I didn't know Comcast offered it to begin with! I've been using
www.individual.net for a few years now.

Well, it wasn't exactly a selling point. In fact, I wouldn've been
happy not to be a Comcast customer, period, but they bought out the
local cable company. I just love monopolies!

I've been using www.individual.net for a few years now.

I may give them another try at some point. Their news feed is *great*,
but when I tried to update my CC info (they were automagically
renewing/billing, which I wasn't too happy about, but whatever),
something got fuxored. I gave up before they were able to get it
sorted.

And let us not forget Google Groups - free, extremely
reliable, and with the most totally awfulest user interface
ever.

I'm so used to being the technologically backward one that I never
dreamed I'd be telling anyone news they didn't. I'm not even sure I
described correctly what Comcast will no longer be doing. Get the
headline news from me; Check the facts with everyone else.

Also, I reread what I wrote about breaking my addiction to usenet and
want to clarify that I meant no insult. When usenet is good, it is very
very good, and when it is bad, well, I can always delete. I'm just
trying to take an extended break.

Happy Got Day Cubbe. You're a lucky dog!

While I thanked you years ago, I recently came across some puppy "ties"
that we were supposed to use to help us tell the puppies apart. I
remembered that I liked one well enough that I put the same material on
two of the puppies, defeating the purpose of them. The good news was
that we could tell the puppies apart.

It was kind of you to have sent them and we enjoyed putting them on the
puppies and taking pictures for our r.p.d.b. friends. Thank you again.

You also have satellite service and DSL to choose from.

Some monopoly.
