My dog loves going to the dog park. She gets along great with the
dogs... most of the time. When ever she sees a dog getting picked on by other dogs she tries to defend the weaker dog. she is very motherly despite the fact she has never had puppies of her own. She is never aggresive until a weaker dog is being picked on and then she gets between the two and pushes the agressor back. 90% of the time the aggressor backs down but if it doesnt it causes quite a scene. How do i keep her from getting involved. |

To be honest, I doubt that's what's going on. However, How do i keep her from getting involved. If I'm understanding you correctly, she's loose at the dog park, gets into scraps, and doesn't listen to you? It sounds like a training problem and that she'd benefit from a lot more work on attention and recall. Dog training classes are a terrific way to do that work - not only are you and she working together around distractions, but an expert eye (the trainer teaching the class) can pick up on interactions between you and your dog that you might miss. In the meantime, when you see her heading off to stick her nose in someone else's business, STOP HER. Get that leash on immediately. If you can't do that, then don't let her offleash in the first place. If she hurts another dog, you're responsible. If she gets hurt, you're responsible too. Don't let that happen. I hate dog parks. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

I checked out a local one to see if it might be something Baron would like. Uh, no. There were at least 100 dogs running around getting their noses in each others' business (as you put it). And leashes aren't allowed at all. My guy would go stark raving nuts - and at 31 lbs, he'd have to be in the big-dogs section. We'll stick to occasional doggy-day-care. -- Mark Shaw (And Baron) moc TOD liamg TA wahsnm ================================================== ======================= "A dog is the only animal who has seen his god." -Unknown |
