Default Dog/People Weekend

David and a friend of his came up this weekend, along with Maggie and
Buddy, to watch the High-Heeled Races last night. (They're held the
Tuesday before Halloween in my neighborhood...started out as just a
local thing but there had to have been over a hundred thousand people
there last night. The race is just that, you have to be wearing high
heels to run in it, but most of the contestants do some form of full
drag. Plus a bunch of people just put on costumes and parade up and
down the street for the hours before the race, which is actually the
most fun part.) It was a fun weekend, but there were some incidents:

* A couple of hours after they got here, we didn't get Buddy outside
fast enough and he peed all over the entryway, including both David's
and my umbrellas. It wasn't very much in any one place because he kept
moving, but that also meant it was *everywhere*. Buddy was mortified.

* Later that evening, Maggie hacked up a tapeworm on the sidewalk. At
least it was (a) outside and (b) small, unlike the enormous one Peanut
threw up in my living room the week after David rescued him (and which
David picked up in his bare hand before realizing what it was!).

* So Maggie got to go to the emergency vet Saturday a.m., and we got to
bring medication home for the other two dogs as well. The clerk asked
"Have you ever been here before?" and then saw the length of the record
in the computer and said "Oh." (The last time David was here with the
dogs, Maggie ended up at the vet because she somehow almost tore out a
nail and was bleeding profusely.)

* Maggie, however, charmed all of the techs, even the ones just walking
by the room we were waiting for the doctor in. And the medication
wasn't as expensive as the doctor originally estimated...she had
originally figured two doses, but realized that only one was needed
because tapeworms apparently only take one dose and all three dogs are
on Sentinel to protect from anything else.

And not related to any of that, Peanut had an appointment today to have
his teeth cleaned. Every vet he's seen since David rescued him has
pointed out that he has a lot of tartar on his teeth, and this month my
vet was giving 20% off on dental treatment. I was worried all day (this
is the first time Peanut's had anesthesia since I've had him) but they
called me at 10:15 to let me know he was awake and fine...they treated
him first because I had him there so early this morning. I picked him
up this afternoon and he is still kind of out of it. We chose this vet
basically because we can walk to it, but I have really liked all of the
doctors we've seen, and the office staff, and it turns out the doctor
Peanut and I like best is the medical director as well.

Peanut was *not* amused at not getting breakfast today, though,
especially as Maggie and Buddy both got theirs...and then he got home
this afternoon and everyone was gone (David left this morning).
