Default Moogli follow-up

Well, it will be thre weeks this sunday that Moogli has been gone.

He ended up going to a distant relative of Gen's that we see a couple of
times a year. It is the mother and her 14 year old son. They already have
a dog, and have always had dogs. They take good care of their current
dog, and I knew that the mother was interested in a second dog. She has
seen Moogli a couple of times at the in-laws chalet, and I know she
thinks he is cute, cuddly and nice.

Getting rid of him was, as I expected, very difficult and very sudden. We
were supposed to head up to the chalet over the weekend, but one of Gen's
coaches hurt herself, so gen had to step in, so we stayed at home, and
were planning on bringing him up the next weekend. Then, we got a phone
call from the mother of the lady who was going to take him. She had
brought her grandkids into town to watch a movie, and could she take
Moogli back with her.

ulp

So I gathered everything together, tears pouring down my face. Washed his
cage, dog bowls, and changed collars. Packed everything in the van, and
spent a couple of hours sitting in the basement with Moogli on my lap,
where he slept the sleep that only dogs and little kids could sleep,
perfectly at peace with the world.

She called after the movie, and we made an arrangement to meet so I could
drop him off. I think I was as suprised as my wife when I said I would
meet here there to drop him off. We met, and again, I was crying like a
baby as I gave him to her. I had to turn, walk away and not look back if
I wanted to be able to drive home anytime soon.

I spoke to the lady taking Moogli a couple of weeks later. As soon as
they got home, Moogli immediately adopted the son. They sleep together on
the sons bed, and are about as close to inseperable as a dog and his boy
can get. Moogli and the dog that was already there are slowly warming up
to weach other. No fights or anything, just slow getting together and
interactions. They share water bowls and dog food bowls, and there hasn't
been any problems, except for one incident where Moogli (neutered)
decided that Lady (spayed), was just what he was looking for. She said it
was rather amusing, as Lady is a lab cross, and Moogli can easily walk
underneath her without ducking too much. lady informed him that this was
not acceptable behaviour, and all is good. They are starting to learn how
to play with each other.

Like at our house, Moogli is loose in the house there all day and all
night. He hasn't had any accidents at all.

sigh

The house is a lot quieter now, and a lot emptier. The floor underneath
Sofia's high chair is a little bit dirtier.

Even though you knew it was necessary, what a hard decision that
was. It sounds like Moogli has ended up in a good home, and I
guess that must help. A little.

A little. It is a good feeling that he is happy, yet sad and a bit betrayed
that he has overcome so quickly. No moping around or anything. The lady who
has him was afraid to call me and share how he was doing, because she got
word from her mother how poorly I took droppping him off, and wasn't sure
if, when I called, I would say "have him ready, I am coming back to pick
him up".

Poor Marcel. I'm in tears, too.

It won't keep you from missing Moogli, but he is going to be very well loved.

I'm sure it's horribly bittersweet.

Beanie's former dad, whom she loves, sees her occasionally and I
occasionally whine to DH about the possibility of them asking for her
back.

You did the right thing and you put the welfare of your family,
including Moogli above everything else. Being responsible includes some
true suckitvity..

Yup. He is happy there, and there is less stress in this house.

I don't wanna be grown up anymore.

Yes, but that doesn't make it any easier on you.
