On Monday (Nov 24) I found a big unconnected pliable lump back
of Friday's right shoulder. I figured (hoped) for an old dog fatty lump, and that's what everyone else who had older dogs with lumps figured, too. Friday went to the vet today, and she knew exactly where it was located before asking - right where Friday had gotten his vaccinations a few weeks ago. The vet drew liquid, which she didn't expect, comprised mostly of cells which indicated an infection. There were enough cells unidentifiable by her that justified a sample be sent to The Lab. Has anyone experienced anything similar? -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Yes, although I don't recall any that I know of requiring biopsy. Was one of the vaccs a rabies vaccination? -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

Yes. The vet expected to see cells particular to a rabies
vaccination reaction, not those indicating an infection. I'm going to be very interested in reading updates. Lab results are expected in a few working days. I had it all figured out before I saw the vet: fatty mass. I hate it when veterinary science disagrees with me. This is one reason I always tell people I meet to get the lumps checked, rather than just go on the assumption that they are lipomas, even if you're 'sure' of what they are. I've seen more than one dog had a supposed 'lipoma' that when it got checked out turned out to be something more serious (in one case it turned out to be an ovarian tumour which had unfortunately spread by the time we saw the dog). It was an infection caused by a reaction to the rabies vaccination. The vet will be refunding the cost of the examination and lab fees. All three of my dogs have had some sort of reaction to vaccinations - this was Friday's 7th or 8th RV and the first time I've noticed a reaction. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

Because of those reactions your dogs qualify for an exemption from rabies vaccinations. They never have to have that shot ever again. And they shouldn't. It could quite possibly be fatal. |
