... I'd like to send you Mukluk for a month or so and then you can tell me all about the dominance myth. No thanks He's a good age now, bless him. Some people prefer that their dogs stay off the furniture, and that is their prerogative.. Yes of course but sometimes people would like to let their dogs on the furniture but don't because they've been told their dog will dominate them if they do. Except that a dog that bites isn't trustworthy, and reading articles really isn't sufficient for problems like that. I've already explain why I gave the links in another post though perhaps this one would have been better. (Scroll down to half way) http://veterinarymedicine.dvm360.com...date=&pageID=3 Do you feel that recommending NILIF is sufficient? Wouldn't the safest and best advice be to recommend seeking help from a good behaviourist/ trainer and tell them how to find one? Alison |

No thanks He's a good age now, bless him.No, really, I would like to send him to you for a month! Or anyone. If you'd told me 10 1/2 years ago that he'd live this long - after having heartworm disease for several years - I wouldn't have believed it. Actually, though, it's probably best that we didn't know he'd live this long, because we might not have sprung him from the pound, and he'd likely be dead. I'm thinking of a takeoff on elegy's thread: When good age happens to bad dogs... Seriously, though, we love him, of course; it's just that he's always been a very challenging, strong-willed dog. Yes of course but sometimes people would like to let their dogs on the furniture but don't because they've been told their dog will dominate them if they do. It's difficult for me to believe that there truly is a large number of people who don't let their dogs on furniture for that reason, but I guess anything is possible. Except that a dog that bites isn't trustworthy, and reading articles really isn't sufficient for problems like that. Wouldn't the safest and best advice be to recommend seeking help from a good behaviourist/ trainer and tell them how to find one? Seeking help from a good trainer (real behaviorists are few and far between) is probably the best approach for someone who isn't sure how to handle the problem. NILIF would help with this problem, and it's something that can be started right away (it's not always possible to find a really good trainer, or an obedience class beginning soon), but it would be more helpful when recommending NILIF to post a link explaining what it is and how it's done. |
