Default Boiling Water?

One of my pet sitting clients boils the water she gives her cats, to
make it easier on their kidneys. I forgot to ask her what, exactly,
this is supposed to achieve, kidney-wise. Any ideas? It seems to me
that filtering it--which she does *not* do--would be more helpful than
boiling, because it would remove some of the heavy metals and minerals.

(And presumably, it's not onna counta pathogens, as the humans drink
their water unboiled.)

wouldn't distilled water be the right choice to be mineral free?

Yes, I would think so!

But, if the water supply in her town is basically safe, wouldn't leaving
the minerals in actually be healthier than taking them out?

yeah. boiling water would kill bacteria not minerals...

I give my dogs bottled water but that's because we have so much of it
at home....

That's interesting. If it's municipal water, perhaps it something to do with
chlorine content? Or is this well water?

Interesting.

City water. They *do* have filters on the shower heads, so chlorine
might be something they're concerned about. In that case, though, why
not filter the drinking water, too?

There have been several news stories this year showing that bottled
water is often actually dirtier than local water sources...I'm just sayin'

Oh yeah. I don't drink bottled water. Aside from it being a pretty
much unregulated industry, I think the environmental impact is bad.
