Default Warning about Nutro pet food

Please pass this along to all Pet Guardians…..
People, again please note: Commercially prepared pet foods changed their
recipes and their ingredient sources without notification.
So foods that were not causing any obvious signs of distress
suddenly causes all sorts of problems –symptoms can range from very
mild to life threatening.

From:

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html

My dog, MuppeTT, has been sick off and on the past couple of months and
we have had no idea why. We thought it was something she was getting
into and have been pretty vigilant about what she eats. When she started
having the same symptoms again a couple of days ago (lethargic, thirsty,
loss of appetite, regurgitating, weird-looking loose stools and
diarrhea) I began to wonder about the food we have been feeding her,
since we haven't seen her eat anything she shouldn't have. We have been
feeding her Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice. I just looked up Nutro
in consumer affairs to see if anything had been noted about Nutro foods.
The food is made in the US and so I thought it was safe from melanine or
any other tainted additive coming from China .

To my utter dismay, there have been numerous complaints over the past
few months about Nutro food and dogs having the exact same symptoms as
MuppeTT, many within California , but all across the country as well.
Some of these dogs have died. We will be taking her to the vet
tomorrow along with the consumer affairs reports and hopefully she will
be ok.

In the meantime I am distributing the above link to the consumer affairs
reports to every possible pet owner I know and every dog email list
hoping to reach anyone who might possibly be feeding their dog Nutro and
seeing unexplained illness. Please feel free to pass this link on; I
would never have come across this if I hadn't specifically been looking
for info about this particular brand of food. I am furious and saddened
that I may have been feeding my dog something that is making her sick,
and that the dog food company which I have always regarded as reputable
is doing absolutely nothing and even denying that a problem may exist.

Best regards,
Sue Parsons

Okay - the most important part of this.........

I am not my pets' guardian. I am their owner. I did not adopt them. I
bought them.

My legal rights and responsibilities are those of an owner, not those of a
guardian.

Heck, I *did* adopt 2 of mine and I'm still not their "guardian" (nor
"pet parent"). I too, am their owner.

There is a very important legal distinction between guardian and owner.
It's not just a word - like "furkids", which makes me cringe but for
different reasons.

The law in my state says I am my dog's owner, not her guardian. And a
good thing, too, because if I were her guardian, the health care
decisions I make for her, without her consent, might get a bit tricky.
We tend to frown on parents spaying their kids, for example.

I'm taking Marcie to get shot today! I'm betting she would vote
otherwise (although she loves my vet and vice versa).

A shot? Shots? Otherwise, that doesn't sound very fun at all!

Harriet's such a dork that I bet she'd enjoy herself even if she knew
that she was getting shots. She has *no* sense whatsoever.

Her first RV booster.

Marcie too. She loves going to the vet (all my dogs do, even though
they've all had some less than fun times).

Ah! Glad to know that no one is actually shooting her.

Having had a dog who didn't, I really appreciate having one who does.
It makes vet trips a lot less stressful for the human(s) involved.
