Default Follow up on Sophie and her surgery

Just wanted to tell everyone that Sophie came through the surgery just fine,
she's home and resting, but a bit down. The blood panel was fine, and since
we had her under we had them do several x-rays as well as scoping. The vet
said her lungs looked good, her heart looked good, with no abnormalities at
this time.

The vet did send the cyst out for a biopsy as she said it wasn't fatty, it
was hard, and will have the results in a few days. She gave me an
antibiotic and 10 Rimadyl to be cut in half and given twice a day if needed.
Sophie doesn't seem to be in pain, so will wait and see.

Just as an aside, I have a couple of friends that were talking about Sophie,
and one of them told the other one that her husband would divorce her if she
spent money like that on her dog. It really didn't matter how much it cost,
but it didn't really cost as much as I thought it would, and my husband
loves that dog as much as I do, so I told the one friend to tell the other
friend that I said...if I was married to *her* husband, I would definitely
not spend the money, and I would just have *him* put down. :-)

Anyway, thanks to everybody for making it a lot easier with your advice and
experience. I really appreciate it and it made the day go much better.

Some people say that, but when something goes wrong, they're the ones at the
vet's crying their eyes out wanting anything to be done for their baby!
Grown men are the worst culprits. It's just talk. Don't worry and don't take
it personally.

I had a coworker tell me that I should have my cat put down. I don't
understand why people think it's okay to say those sorts of things.

Anyway, thanks to everybody for making it a lot easier with your

I think the waiting is always the worst part. I'm glad Sophie's back
home and that things look good for her.

Every dog I ever had that had surgery did the same. Better every day until
it was just a memory. Or at least better than it was, or the condition was
halted.

Best Wishes to you and Sophie ............. extra petting and a calm voice
helps, too.

so glad Sophie is doing well.

FWIW, if my husband told me I could not spend my money on my dogs,
he'd be my ex husband.

She's still pretty unsteady on her feet this morning, but I assume that's
normal then? She hasn't eaten since the night before surgery, and hasn't had
water since yesterday morning which kind of concerns me. Also, she hasn't
urinated or pooped. She's an old dog, so I hope she won't run into problems.
Thankfully, her vet doesn't mind being called with questions. Thanks for the
good wishes.

My dh gave me some flack about the cost of the specialist/hospital stay
estimate when one of our dogs had CRF (we were in the exam room at the time)
I just gave him a withering look and told him that she was at least worth
the same amount we had paid for his new John Deere riding mower the previous
year. He didn't say another word Glad the surgery went well.

LOL, that would certainly stop the discussion. My DH is more than willing to
spend whatever it takes, since she is his pal and has gone to work with him
just about every day for the past 8 years. He's self-employed servicing
natural gas wells in about a 200 mile radius daily, so she's well traveled
riding on the passenger seat, and getting lots of excercise in the
Sacramento River Delta. He's been sort of lost without her these past few
days, so I know he'll be glad when she's well enough to travel again too.
