Did you think Diddy should spike Reka's temperature up to dangerous
levels and then throw a can at her?

Reka is sound sensitive (except surprisingly.. to gunfire.. she loves to
go
hunting!) but a penny can would cause emotional trauma

It seems this might be a clue. Perhaps there was a sound that happened to
occur as she was crossing a theshold, and they became associated. For some
dogs, a penny can distraction may be helpful, but perhaps for dogs like
Reka, they might be counterproductive. For Muttley, it would probably take
a trash can full of bricks to make enough noise to get his attention.

Do you think some sort of desensitization to noise may be helpful?

Meanwhile, I hope the tranqs continue to help, and probably a lot of loving
and calm thoughts on your part will go far to relieve her anxiety and allow
her to be the clown she loves to be.

I took Reka hunting today. She scrambled over, through, on top of, crawled
under, went into the most amazing places today. I'm watching in total
amazement, all the while thinking, "THIS is the dog that cannot get over a
threshold".

I hope this is a good sign that she might be getting over her strange
glitch. Just when you think you have dogs figured out, they throw you
another curve.

BTW, I finally got a message today from the Perry Point VA hospital about a
program for the veterans in their nursing home facility. I hope to find out
tomorrow if dogs would be allowed, and then try to set something up. It is
past the deadline for our next Sierra Club outings newsletter, so the next
window of opportunity would be the May issue, which would list activities
for the summer. Hopefully that will coincide with your next trip through MD
and on up to MA. I'll keep you posted. Reka would probably be a real hit as
the clown she is known to be!

Reka isn't coming. Just Tuck and Yorik

June 1 or June 5 are the only dates where it might be worked in

That sounds really positive! After all this, is she still having
problems in the house?

But yesterday, she suddenly cannot walk from the hallway over the
threshold to the living room. And once in the living room, she cannot cross
the threshold into the kitchen.

I don't know if this is at all helpful or relevant, but I have the
following anecdotes.

One weekend when I was gone, DH pulled up all the carpet on the first
floor, leaving hardwood floors uncovered. Bella freaked out and would
try to jump from the stairs into the kitchen because she didn't want to
touch the wood floor. She would sit on the steps and whine.

We found this unusual because our bedroom has hardwood floors. She
knows hardwood floors, but she wouldn't generalize. It took her a few
days to deal.

She also slipped on the tile floor and then acted like the floor was
attempting to harm her. She didn't want to walk on it, but she had to
to get to food. A couple of days later, she was fine.

We don't know why she had these issues, but she did recover...
