: but unfortunately it's now freezing rain on top of sleet on top of snow. looking forward to shoveling this. i sure am. Uh huh. I like shoveling (did a ton of it this afternoon, and still haven't totally uncovered my car). When it's ice-covered snow, though, it's brutal. I do not envy you! Totally OT: I'm kind of cranky about the fact that the parking lot wasn't ploughed. The snow is high (higher than the running boards on my SUV), and there are mountains of it where people have tried to get their cars out, so even if I managed to get mine unstuck, and even with 4WD, I'd still get stuck on the numerous snow hills if I tried to get out. And I *want* to get out, because today was Operation Cracktop Purchase Day. Grrr. Now I'm going to have to wait until after work tomorrow, and the suspense might killerate me. Besides, I swear every day I spend using this crappy old computer, the aggravation takes five years off my life. Must acquire cracktop *NOW*! -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

No joke about shoveling and asthma, especially if the air is really cold. Be careful! I've been wondering about Diddy & Shelly and see you both apparently still have power. Oh yeah. There's a lot of snow, for this area, but not so much that it's going to cause a black out. I hope. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

@panix2.panix.com: If the Baytril doesn't work she's going to look for stones, then a culture would be the next step. Fingers crossed. I dread urinary problems, so you have my sympathies. As does Crow. Even Image had a brief cavort, then she looked around to make sure nobody saw her do it. in news:2009012812141116807-montana@wildhackcominvalid: I've been wondering about Diddy & Shelly and see you both apparently still have power. The weatherman said we got 12 inches of snow in our county. I think he uses the same unit of measurement that fishermen use, or some men bragging about the center of their universe. We do have 12 inches of snow all right, but some of that us cumulative residual snow from last week's collection. nice to look at, nice to play in, and the dog's have been having a ball. But we were lucky, because we got just snow, and do not have the ice mess afflicting those south of us. What a mess they have. I'm so glad we just got snow! |

We have ice, but not like that (we have in the past and I know how horrible it is). Still, DH's car and my front walk are firmly encased in ice and I just got in from shoveling the rest of the driveway before the refreeze It was ice, slush, ice and ow do I ache. I didn't have a prayer of chopping up the stuff at the end of the driveway. We have a dip and it is filled with water at the moment (which will turn to ice tonight) and then the plow really packed some ice on the end of that. Very nice. Mail hasn't come (maybe we have to wait for gloom of night). The walkway, being concrete, is holding onto the ice much more than the blacktop driveway. What fun. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

Greta's the only dog I've had who's had them in the past, and I don't think that was at all typical. I'm hopeful that the Baytril will knock it out. We walked for about 40 minutes, and got about 1/3 done as we normally do. Most of it, VERY slooooowly. What I want to know is what kind of crazy person jogs on frozen sidewalks at this time of the evening. And how many times do you suppose it takes before some dog figures out that standing 3-legged and peeing near the top of a slope on a sheet of ice is a really bad idea? Suja |

Apparently, trying to squat in snow that's taller than your butt is A Very Big Deal. Cenau and Brenin say to tell her that at least she isn't having her feet slip out from under... Indeed. Peanut's walk was cut very short this morning because he was having terrible problems...he'd just be standing there and then suddenly start sliding off the sidewalk. Luckily the sidewalk had already been cleared in front of my building so we were able to find someplace for him to pee, but walking any further was out of the question even though Peanut was up for it. I hoped things would be better by the time I had to leave for work, but they weren't...ended up falling on my way to the bus stop. Fell on my back but luckily my backpack somehow ended up swinging free and not ending up under me...luckily because I had my computer in it! Also luckily didn't hit my head, and I have no idea why not since I ended up lying flat on my back. Wasn't hurt, just annoyed and thinking "why me?" although I'm sure I wasn't the only one to fall today! -- Kevin Michael Vail* * | I would rather have a mind opened by wonder * * * | than one closed by belief. * -- Gerry Spence |

: Indeed. Peanut's walk was cut very short this morning because he was having terrible problems...he'd just be standing there and then suddenly start sliding off the sidewalk. Hmmm. Perhaps if he just walked in the back yard? Tuck feels the need to hike high to mark in public places, but merely squats when in the yard where he has nothing to prove |
