The university is closed today, so I'm home. Harriet just went outside
to pee, and she is not amused. Apparently, trying to squat in snow
that's taller than your butt is A Very Big Deal.

Crow has what's turning out to be a stubborn UTI so we've
been collecting urine samples from time to time, and more
than once we've wrecked the sample by allowing snow to fall
in it when she launches out of her squat.

That's kind of scary. I've heard recently of this happening with
several dogs.

It happened with Greta, but her case was different. She was
Cushingoid and polydipsic as a result (when we first started
the process with Cornell I was tracking her water
consumption - ~5 liters/day), and the internist we worked
with at Cornell thought that her urine had become so dilute
that it interfered with its antiseptic properties. Not sure
what's going on with Crow - we just switched to Baytril and
if that doesn't work the vet thinks it's possible there are
bladder stones and we'll do x-rays.

But she's definitely not feeling great - when we go out
she'll stop every couple of hundred yards or so and squat,
so we haven't been going out that much.

Crow is made of sterner stuff than Miss Brown, at least where snow is
concerned. No surprise there!

The dogs definitely don't want to stay inside during the
cold snaps, and the snow is a big bonus for them. When a
bunch of them are out together they all come in with snow on
their faces.

Cenau and Brenin say to tell her that at least she isn't having her feet
slip out from under...

Yep - making sure Lucy is a bit more careful out there today. The
youngsters have better traction than the old lady (and let's not even
mention ME - I have yet to go out in it!).

Ha-Ha

and the song going through my head as I watch the dogs on the 'glossy'
snow is 'slip sliding away..."

Hannah knows how to deal with ice but this is Harley's first Ice and
he's sliding all over the place.

and for us it's the opposite. Hannah has her Ice footing much better
than Harley who is experience ICE for the first time....

It wasn't too bad this morning. Dogs went for their usual morning walk, and
the leggy dog wasn't slipping and sliding around like she has in the past.
We did minimize walking on anything that is paved, however. I find it
harder to gauge slippiness on such surfaces.

It's supposed to get warm enough today that the ice should melt.

For traction, get YAX TRAX. They work
