Ah - knowing what they are doing being a key phrase. Are they BYBs?

My impression was they are but I don't know for sure.

Keeping a litter in a garage in winter in MI tells me a lot (unless it
is a fancy, schmancy heated garage).

Nope. There was a woodstove but it wasn't going either time we were there
and that was when the temperatur was really low.

Puppy raising isn't just about feeding and do those people SOUND like
folks who gave a damn about proper rearing?

Sounds like the puppy was MUCH better off outta there!

I agree.

Keeping a litter in the garage because its
too cold to keep them outside is NOT a place
where that puppy would have learned anything
productive during the remaining weeks.

Better to get the puppies into loving homes
so they can actually start being socialized
to the home.

The early age doesn't seem to have been much of a factor and actually seems
to have worked in our favor in the area of housetraining. At eight weeks
she is already going to the door a good portion of the time when she needs
to go.

I know the temperature of my parent's garage in MI (I don't have a
garage myself) can get cold enough to freeze pop cans that are stored
out there.

Somewhat related side note: I got to play with a litter of 10 7 week
old Lab puppies this weekend. It was a blast. They were kept in a
living room in MI.
