Default Maybe vs. sheep

Today, Maybe will meet sheep - we'll see if her experience
herding little fluffy dogs pays off.

I hope to have pictures.

The bad news: Only one picture and not on sheep. The person who
talked me into this sheep herding foray was a no-show - and she
was supposed to take pictures of Maybe. So it was only myself
and the instructor. Anyway, here's Maybe ignoring the sheep:

I don't know much about herding (I've watched a few competitions
and taken two weekend seminars with Rocky and Friday), but Maybe
seemed to be a natural. She did the circling bit all on her
own, responded well to change of direction signals, and stopped
pushing too close to them when told not to.

have fun!

We did, and the bonus is that I've finally found an affordable
place to work sheep - only $20 a lesson and an hour drive.
We'll be doing this again.

Good grief she's all grown up. And she is just beautiful. I love her
color. How do you feel about your dog looking smarter than you? (It's
never bothered me in the least, my dogs ARE smarter than me).

Yes, she's growing up. And she knows she's beautiful, quite an
attitude she has.

I love her color. How do you feel about your dog looking
smarter than you?

I don't wear red well.

What a noble red beast! She's a beaut, and you can see she knows it!

A friend of mine has sheepherding dogs, and she has a blast with them. Mind
you, she has her own few sheep, so it's a little cheaper (how much do sheep
cost???). She also has a pack-goat who delivers the local paper with her
daughter, but that's another story.

She looks like she's getting a good air snuffle.

How long is a lesson for $20, and is it one-on-one? I pay more than
that for a day of field training, but we do all aspects of the job -
throw, pop (no actual shooting), run our own dogs, work on fine points,
sit around and talk "shop", etc. How long I stay is more or less up to
me, but generally I go from 10/11-3/4.

Maybe Luce and 'shroom wouldn't mind going to herding camp either.

I have no idea what sheep cost, but people who have the
property, the sheep, the wherewithal, and still allow strange
dogs to harass their sheep are few and far between.
