Well, maybe not *outing*, but on our way back home yesterday I swapped him into right front lead to see how he'd do, and he did great. He didn't seem stressed, he didn't look around, he didn't ask for reassurance, but he went straight as an arrow down the trail. In fact, once we turned into the barnyard Crow tried to go over to the truck but Jack pulled her back in the right direction and down the hill, and I've never seen any other dog tell Crow what to do, ever. Well, maybe not "outing", but on our way back home yesterday I swapped
him into right front lead to see how'd he do and he did great. ______________________________ Congratulations Melinda... Wonderful job Jack! This time I opted to read all of the thread before posting and it is good that I did. You already answered my question about the dog that he replaced. I was going to inquire how the replaced dog (Eclipse) handled it and it sounds like Jack handled it all just fine. As you know I know little about dog sledding but that seems impressive to me that Jack could just step into the lead role and not be intimidated by Eclipse, the former leader and a dog that was now positioned right behind him. Is Jack going to be the new leader or do you plan to switch back and forth? Be Free.....Judy |

I hope that eventually he'll be a regular leader but he still has a lot to learn, plus it's a lot of pressure for a dog and he needs to mature some. But he's such a bossy-pants and *so* self-confident that I think he's probably a natural. I thought of you the other day when I saw that Lance Mackey has a Cafe Press store, where he's selling stuff that's kind of tacky (the Zorro "Who's your daddy?" stuff) and kind of funny: https://www.cafepress.com/LanceMackey -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

That would have been kinda funny if it had worked though. I mean, for me....sitting at home where its warm :-) |
