Default Jack's first outing in lead

[]
Well, maybe not *outing*, but on our way back home yesterday
I swapped him into right front lead to see how he'd do, and
he did great. He didn't seem stressed, he didn't look
around, he didn't ask for reassurance, but he went straight
as an arrow down the trail. In fact, once we turned into
the barnyard Crow tried to go over to the truck but Jack
pulled her back in the right direction and down the hill,
and I've never seen any other dog tell Crow what to do,
ever.

Mostly! Eclipse was unhappy about being demoted and made no
effort to hide it. At one point she tried to take everybody
off in a different direction but fortunately nobody was
listening to her (which is a good thing to know, actually).

Congratulations Melinda...
Wonderful job Jack! This time I opted to read all of the thread before
posting and it is good that I did. You already answered my question
about the dog that he replaced.

I was going to inquire how the replaced dog (Eclipse) handled it and it
sounds like Jack handled it all just fine. As you know I know little
about dog sledding but that seems impressive to me that Jack could just
step into the lead role and not be intimidated by Eclipse, the former
leader and a dog that was now positioned right behind him.

Is Jack going to be the new leader or do you plan to switch back and
forth?

I hope that eventually he'll be a regular leader but he
still has a lot to learn, plus it's a lot of pressure for a
dog and he needs to mature some. But he's such a
bossy-pants and *so* self-confident that I think he's
probably a natural.

I thought of you the other day when I saw that Lance Mackey
has a Cafe Press store, where he's selling stuff that's kind
of tacky (the Zorro "Who's your daddy?" stuff) and kind of
funny: https://www.cafepress.com/LanceMackey

I learned a lot from Image dragging us through hedgerows
along deer trails, Image taking off with the team when I
stopped to zip up my parka, Image laughing at me when I, oh,
nevermind.

Yes - it's kind of worrisome in a creature that still has a
puppy brain.
