Default how about some GOOD NEWS....

Hi! been reading but not posting.

life is busy for me dog related and otherwise....

I'm looking forward to taking Harley back to class in June. He's come
so far.

1. both dogs are as healthy as they are going to be.... Hannah is on
both pheonbarb and potassium now. the potassium was at 1.3 and it
made her loopy so i got the vet to drop it to 1 ml bid and she is
doing much better. she is battling a severe UTI right now but she's
been on antibiotics for 3 weeks and is not in discomfort anymore.

2. Harley is Worm free, giardia free, crypto free and GROWING! he was
78 pounds when I got him and he was 96 pounds last month... still can
feel hips shoulders and ribs just fine.. his fur is silky and his
skin no longer dry as he gobbles down his fish oil twice a day... he
thinks it's a yummy! he's getting taller too. now he can rest his
head on the table easily (he watches us when we game but not when we
eat...) his tush is higher than his shoulders so we still have some
serious growing to go here. I hear that his brother in NY is also
growing a lot. 16 month old newf puppies are nowhere near done...

3. Harley has normal poops now while eating Natural Balance Sweet
Potato and Fish kibble. Seems pup is allergic to grains, beef and
chicken.... he can tolerate one grain based yummy a day (his crate
reward) without incident and he can have a beef trachea for chewing
once or twice a week.... (which is good because i have a whole box of
them)

HE LOVES to go in the car now. he does not puke any more (thanks to
ginger snaps)

he's a delight to walk as he does not pee or poop on the leash so we
have to do our business at home and nothing to carry back!

Thanks for the tip about the ginger snaps! Murphy has been having a problem
with carsickness, and I was about to ask the group about a holistic remedy.
Can you tell me how many, and how long before the car trip?

In my experience, it's trial and error. You can also buy ginger
capsules, though I find that cookies work well enough and are
more easily accepted by the dog.

For those not familiar with Trader Joe's, their ginger snaps have a much
higher concentration of ginger than your average grocery-store variety - not
both fresh and powdered ginger in the batter/dough, but studded with chunks
of crystallized ginger. Mmmmm.

Thanks! We're at TJ's every Saturday, and I will definitely pick some up.
Now if I can only save some for Murph! On a *somewhat* related note, have
you seen the "ode" to Trader Joe's on YouTube? It's really funny:

Yup, my favorite. And a great store. I usually buy way too much when I'm
there.
